PvE FT "Veggie Pizza" build
You are wasting all those traits, runes and sigils for burning duration. While you could simply use P/P and blowtorch. For solo purpose you do not need to stack long burns, and for group purposes it doesn’t matter cos there are other people applying burning, and prolly with higher condition damage (meaning your won’t even tick).
I always have trouble loading that tool, but I can probably guess what the build is like. You’ll do alot more dmg on flamethrower with, lets say 3 elixir setup and 3x 20% might duration runes and might on crit sigil or battle (both will be too much). You stack 25 might on yourself and actually pump out much more direct damage and condition damage aswell, even without the extra burning ticks you might get – solo – against a champion (long kill).

Your better going the 100% condition duration build with veggie pizza. Then all your conditions are buffed.
Davidah (Guardian) Goloith (Engineer)
Achuni (Mesmer) Doreanora (Thief)
Why do people always want to turn flamethrower into a condition weapon?
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
Why do people always want to turn flamethrower into a condition weapon?
Because most of the popular builds run around condition damage so they want to bring their gear over to this weapon. Personally I think direct damage builds are better.

I think it is the proc on crit effect stuff. Burning, Bleeding, Vulnerability all on crit, so a fast criting weapon with lots of crit chance you SHOULD be able to get the most out of these skills (same with omnomberry pies and healing) but they decided to put internal cooldowns on everything so in the end it just doesn’t work like it should on paper. Every advantage to having a fast attacking weapon is nullified and retaliation has no cooldown, which is just a bonus (if you like to die).
The cooldowns that’ve been added to on-crit effects have eliminated most of the up-side benefits of the FT’s high attack rate.
About the only benefits that remain from its high attack rate are:
- reliable 2-3 bleed stacks for 3s from Sharpshooter (Firearms 5pts, assuming crit rate of 50-75%)
- you can be sure on-crit effects will proc once during the channel
- you may tag more enemies for XP/loot credit in PvE and WvW.
Its vulnerability to Retaliation means it carries a high risk when used in PvP and WvW, which is why its now pretty much a PvE kit.
