Q:

Hi there!

I’ve recently hit 80 and I am now looking for a build to use in PvE – mostly dungeons. Now I know that probably the best build for damage dealing in dungeons is the Grenades, and I’ve used a grenade build leveling to 80 but it’s not really my cup of tea. Flamethrower seems like a viable replacement, sacrificing some of the extra damage from grenades for extra control and survivability but with lesser range. Now I might try that. Elexir-gun for support, sure… Bombs for…well… You can also use bombs.

For a while I used a P/P build with coated bullets and much condition damage but it just didn’t feel as viable as the grenades.

Now I’m looking for a build that revolves entirely around the Rifle. I have the basic idea of the all the other weapon options for engineers, but not for the rifle. Is there a viable build for Rifles? How would I spec? What would be my role in a group?

Anyone that can enlighten me?

I ran a rifle gadget for a bit at 80 it was a blast I had good single CC with net cripple personal battering ram, rocket boots for the utility belt and stun breaker. Last but not least I use goggles. Also do not under estimate a perfectly timed Supply drop.

basic rotation was net, analyze, keep firing until the were close to melee. the goggles. rocket kick, blunderbuss and/or jumpshot (depends on what the mob was doing) followed by a personal battering ram. If net shot was not up I would use “launch personal battering ram skill” for the 5s cripple and keep firing.

I would add in overcharge shot here and there for the damage if I knew I was not going to aggro things. However that was not a good choice in the land of ore as the mob density in spot in pretty thick

The spec I run works fairly well in dungeons.

It’s a 30 firearms, 10 Inventions, 30 tools build.

It is a build that I’ve found to be very flexible in dungeons.

The basic setup is a 40/60 split of knights and valkyrie gear.

I use rifle, healing turret / medkit, tool kit, PBR / Rifle Turret, Open slot, Supply crate

The bulk of your damage comes from rifle abilities, namely blunderbuss + jump shot, and tool belt abilities + static discharge. You pretty much use tool belts – jump shot + blunderbuss – and then repeat.

The build is quite flexible since you can use elixir gun to get a lot of group condition removal when needed, you can use turrets for control or kiting, or even swap in a few elixirs like R or S for the really rough fights.

You can also swap to P/P or into a Flamethrower build with trait or gear swaps within the build, which can be handy.

But something to keep in mind is even without the grenadier traits for fights you have to range, and for melee fights when your burst skills are on cool down, you’ll always be better off swapping to tool kit, bomb kit, or grenade kit for dps’ing. Their 1 abilities will do much better dps than hipshot and you can take advantage of some other strong burst skills like the confusion bomb, pry bar, grenade kit #2, while your waiting for cool downs.

The knock back from PBR is really great for setting up a jump shot + blunderbuss combo.

If you time it right you can also use the utility goggles to prevent the knock down from overcharged shot as well.
