“We are the Gods of the New World Order. We are the Soldiers, the Legion of Light
We are the Center, the Death of the Sun. Fire and Flame, WE ARE ONE!”
Hello! Cze??! Let me introduce myself. Name’s Dinoslaw Blackmane – Blacktide server, Engineer of “Where Are My Dragons[GoT]” Polish Guild. As you can see, english isn’t my native language, so if you don’t understand something I beg your pardon
I want to share with you my very own PvP build which I call: “Gadgetstorm Engineer”
Why gadgetstorm? “LOL WUT engi’s gadgets? Who da hell use dat thing!”
I wanted create a build full of fun, sparkles and of course not so easy to kill
I made my succesful way on tPvP and sPvP on this build – I’m almost always first or second in team score.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqel0pKe37y2F1LJxIFdm0hUgfDDSR9zroC6H-TsAA1CqIMSZkzIjRSjsGNs4YxkAA
Let me explain some choices I made:
1) Weapons – of course famous duo – pistol/shield. Why? Maybe because I love them, maybe because I like throwing shield straight in the face of enemy, but main reason for this weapons is control(pistol – blind, shield – push, daze) and lowering your enemy’s possible chances to kill you Of course it can do some serious damage, but it is not so important.
2) Med Kit – for permaswiftness with Speedy Kits trait and for for condition removal + more heal
3) Personal Battering Ram – first of my gadgets – cooldown is maybe too long but chance to push enemy off or spell/finishers interrupting is for me kinda cool. Toolbelt skill – fine damage and cripple, so if he tries to run – hit with toolbelt skill and then Poison Dart Volley in his back
4) Rocket Boots – nice stunbreaker but we should use it wisely, only when we know that we might escape, damage and finisher is not bad after all, but the true honey is toolbelt Rocket Kick – nice burn, low cooldown and nice synergy with storm part of build
5) Utility Googles – another stunbreaker – I use it when RB are on CD or I need to get up fast and “run when the pepper grows” Fine toolbelt skill Analyze – 10% more damage on not so big cooldown
6) Supply Crate – of course – other elite’s are not as good
Time to get to part Storm in my build – as you can see all toolbelt skills are on relatively short cooldown, so why not to use it for our advantage – Static Discharge is awesome and for now it is very good damage choice and can wreak havoc in battle.
My runes are Melandru’s – more armor is always welcome and reduced time on conditions. Sigils – of fire – for some attack boost for pistol #1, shield – of accuracy – more crit – more dmg, MOAR LIGHT from storm and fire!
My choice of stats is Soldier’s Amulet with Rampager’s Jewel – awesome number for build is 22222 – your health Soldier will give you much needed power to hit with static discharge and other skills, armor and health; rampager – more crit and some condition dmg for our pistol
Trait choice:
Firearms – More swiftness because of crit and reduced cooldown for pistol skills
Inventions – Cloaking device – can save your tail sometimes and reduced cd for shield and little more toughness
Alchemy – Protection injection – if we’re disabled why not to have dmg reduction (why not elixir S? – now it is not as good as it was – when u die because of conditions and it will trigger you will be dead like nothing happened because we can’t heal now – so for me little waste of potential)
Tools – more speed for roaming on the battlefield and of course – STATIC DISCHARGE – OUR STORM in Gadgetstorm!
That’s the end my engi friends. I will await your opinion: negative or positive, but I hope you will like my Gadgetstorm Engineer Take care!
Respect that you try it. But sPvP and Gadget…. this is no love story.
The cooldowns are bad, rocket boots kills you more often then it helps and with only 1 condtion removal you die against every Engi/Ranger/Necro.
Additional you took strage combination of skills. For example :Infused Precision and speedy kits. Then you have bunker amulet but you main idea is to go for direct damage.
Sorry I do not think you build works
Infused Precision and speedy kits.
This. You follow the path of the static discharge with a few improvisations. Don’t take the skills which serve the same porpoise, it’s a waste of space.
PBR has way too long of a cooldown to justify ever using it, I would switch it for Elixir B. Even if you don’t trait for elixirs the boons are more valuable. You can also use throw mine as a CC, both the main and toolbelt skill have lower cooldowns and do more (the toolbelt can remove boons). You can also swap it out for flamethrower which has an AoE knockback on a shorter cooldown than that piece of crap gadget
Rocket Boots is a useless stun break because it knocks you down, never ever pick this useless skill. It might actually work if the self stun wasn’t there. The toolbelt has uses but they are not worth disabling yourself and it may take another 8 months before this skill changes. If you really need a second stun pick up elixir r, it breaks stun/gives two dodges and the toolbelt can revive someone from range and you can still fight while they res. You can also forgo a second stun break for elixir c which removes all conditions, flamethrower for another knockback(if you didn’t swap out PBR for it), elixir gun for lots of stuff, or toolkit for an extra block/confusion/pull skill.
Elixirs, even without traits, are more useful than gadgets.
If you switch medkit for healing turret, you can use blowup turret/shield 4/throw mine/ rocket boots for AoE heals.

Your Crit Damage is only 20%, so I would say that Goggles and the Static Discharge trait are not really good choices. You aren’t really a Static Discharge build.
I would disagree somewhat with Super Riceman about the Rocket Boots (although I don’t personally use it). It has a pretty decent Tool Belt skill (the Rocket Kick) which has a short cool down, and coupled with Static Discharge, can be a consistent source of reliable damage. However, in my first paragraph, I’m kind of discouraging your use of Static Discharge.
You pretty much just seem to be an Engineer with 22k of Health.
Another build that will be torn to shreds by this disgusting community.
To the community: Offer him/her suggestions to improve their build, instead of saying it won’t work.
To the OP: Welcome to the Engineer forums.
I would also take knight’s over soldiers if you want a high health pool but dmg to support it (also has precision).
Take hair trigger over infused precision
you can take 10pts from fire arms and put it into explosives for incendiary powder(burning on crit), or 10 more pts into inventions for reduced shield cooldowns, 10 more into alchemy for invigorating speed (vigor on swiftness), or adrenal implant for faster endurance regen (doesn’t overlap like with infused precision and speedy kits, more points in tools mean faster cooldowns on toolbelt skills meaning more static discharge).
Don’t try a gadget build until meaningful changes are made to them unless you can really handle frustration.

I see 4 posts above yours, and each of them is giving advice without being insulting.
Yours is actually the first post I see that is NOT giving any suggestions at all to improve.
Mine is the second, but I’ll get to that in a moment.
Who are you calling disgusting? The 4 helpfull posters above you?
I like gadgets. Let me start there.
This said: I do not like the cooldowns on most gadgets, and I often find them too weak for the usage of a skill slot.
The first big issue of gadgets is that they lack traits to back them up.
This leaves you with plenty traits to use for other things, but it also leaves you with gadgets that can’t be improved a lot.
I’m curious to your damage with this build.
Rocket boots toolbelt is great in melee range. Analyse is helpfull too, although I find it a very long cooldown for only those stacks of vulnerability. Still: when you can use it, it helps.
Rocket boots is an odd one. I like it, but it also is very unreliable.
To be honest: I find it most usefull with a smoke field.
In WvW it’s nice to have something that breaks cc AND moves you to another spot. For those moments you get cought in a big mess.
How does it work out in tpvp? Don’t you feel the self cc a lot there?
If focusing on gadgets, than why not mines?
I find them to be the best designed gadget of them all. Low cooldown, decent damage potential, boon stripping, and of course: knockback you can position, and more: that you can time!
I would take it over personal battering ram any day. In your build, I can not understand why you took the ram over the mine.
Isn’t the mine great in tpvp against thieves and for point clearing?
I have no comment about your build working or not.
You say it works for you… well, than it works for you
I would make some different choices myself, and mostly: I’m not sure I would have enough damage in that build for the small fights in tpvp.
I realise control is more important, but than I would take the mine at least.

Maybe that was because I was trying out his build before judging it? Funny whenever there is an argument to be had, you magically appear. Before I break down his build and offer suggestions, let me defend myself.

Sorry I do not think you build works -Lupanic
Should I continue? No, I think that will do.
Now onto my judgment of this build.
This build tries to do a bit of everything, I think what it needs the most is to not be in SPvP. The amulets while a neat idea for S/TPvP, doesn’t allow for a more polished build, it’s just a bunch of generic stats. Because of this genericness this build struggles in SPvP, and most certainly would not be used in TPvP. The build is all about burst, as most SD builds are, but you aren’t forced to waste a utility slot to be bursty. The only downside is because of the stupid generic amulets in S/TPvP, this build will not be good there. You don’t dish out enough DPS to be useful to an organized group, you also are struggling to hold nodes, due to being bursty but nothing else. D/D Eles, Thieves, Burst Warriors, and Tank Guardians eat this build alive.
I made some changes to get this build adjusted to WvW/PvE, SD benefits from Power and Precision, and the OP wanted to be a tank, so this part was a no brainer. Knights Gear. Now SD needs some crit damage, so I put in some Berserker Amulet, Accessories, Rings, and Back piece. I used Ruby Gems. Next while this is a more personal change, I hate the rune of Melandru, and swapped it out for the Rune of the Pack, since everything it offers, benefits this build. Next up the Rifle offers more Power and CCs for this build. I swapped out Rocket Boots for Throw Mine, to keep your gadget vibe, and swapped the Med Kit for Healing Turret, so you can offer more to your group. I only made one change to your traits, since you are no longer using a shield. I changed it from Reinforced Shield, to the Rifle Mod.
After this was accomplished, I noticed this build performed quite well. I’m bad at explaining things, so here is the build itself:

you take single phrases out of whole posts and you claim they were not being helpfull?
It’s not because they didn’t think his build was working, that they were insulting him or not trying to help him.
Some of these posts included postive and polite things you know.
Your accusation of people being disgusting was totally out of order there.
The 4 posts above you were not applauding the build no, but they were being honest and helpfull. And you call them disgusting.
That’s when I appear yes, when people are insulting others for no good reason yes.
The posts above yours did not deserve the way you insult them.
And for the record: your analysis of the build is pretty good I think.
But seriously: where the heck did that sneer of ‘disgusting community’ come from? The posters really weren’t hostile at all.
It sort of baffled me seeing that remark.
Thanks to all for advice and discussion(good or bad), I will enhance my build and some your proposals are pretty good – especially with riffle and throw mine. It worked for me even better now.
Once again – thanks
You might not need to go with soldiers or knights amulets, A high health pool isn’t as important as the methods to maintain one. You can get around a low health pool with condition removal/transfer, more healing power (3 runes of water and monk is a good combo), longer boon durations (especially protection and regen), vigor and better use of dodge (better to avoid rather than reduce damage).
If you know how to use your condi-removal/dodges/boons, it will open up your options for amulets beyond ones that give vitality.
Also you might want to get a berserker or celestial jewel to boost dmg of SD
