PvP Build? Necros n Rangers are problematic.
Necro are a big problem for everyone now, as far as i know.
I think necros are fairly susceptible to cc – engineer have plenty of cc options so you could build with that in mind and have your teammates to nuke him down while you cc.
elixirgun (traited) > necros
super elixir will clear off the conditions, and then it’s all about the traits.
The increased range trait for elixirgun is bugged (no surprise) and it increases the duration of the cripple from the #2 skill. Add in the 20% faster recharge on skills, and you can really put a hurting on some people, with permanent cripple/weakness/bleeding.
The downside of the elixirgun is it’s poor damage output. If they have decent regen, you’ll never beat them.
But necros don’t have squat for regen, unless they are using their pet, and if they are… give up, no one can beat a pet necro solo.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
Here’s a tip: Burst builds will always loose to a Bunker build. They will outlast you.

If you’re losing to bunkers whilst you’re burst then you clearly doing it wrong…being bunker their dmg output is usually severely hampered and we all know zerker stats scale way better than bunker ones. Zerker builds aren’t for everyone , you must crawl before you walk.
I do relatively well with an SD burst but I’ve noticed that Rangers for some reason are a little tougher than other classes.
I rolled an Engineer because one took me out as part of a 1v2 encounter, and I was impressed. I think it was Grenades and Bombs but I’m not quite sure. After some experience with the class I’m guessing he was Grenades/HGH. He outlasted us and I’m looking for something similar as it looked quite fun to play.
TY for the responses,

Let me ask this: how are you liking the engineer playstyle? Be honest now.
You rolled an Engineer because you were impressed by the skills of someone using it. Not the best reason, I reckon.
Doing what I can for DB during EU primetime
You got to learn sooner or than later how to use nades but watching beginners use them and even decent ranked players (30+) miss or just throw them any and everywhere because they want to idle bomb from1500 range…thats not how they’re used. My advice for you is to use bombs now and rotate to nades later , bombs shut down melee attacks period.
Seems you lack condition removal and you’re running a burst spec against a regen ranger.
Hello Engineers,
I’m practicing Grenades but I’m not fully proficient yet. I’ve shy’d away from condition but am willing to give it a shot.
TY in advance for any input.

If you do decide that Condition is something you want to try, Grenades are an amazing place to test the waters. It is insanely easy, to the point of being boringly so, to maximize your condition dps with Rabid gear and an HGH build. As was stated previously, one does not want to become comfortable ranging with nades as you kitten your reflexive capabilities and overal potential. The best grenadiers that I have seen are usually aggressors who constantly push on top of the enemy and root them for dps chains/condition stacking. The idea of using bomb kit in close quarters only serves to solidify this principle.

Honestly, I love it. I’m rapidly approaching 80 and this will be my 4th capped toon. Over 1600 hours on my acct and this Engi is just dam fun. Seems that each kit has at least one viable build and I love the fact that you can run just kits if you want and have so many options at your fingertips. The learning curve is steep but rewarding.
I will give Rabid a chance with grenades tonight and see how it fares. TY for the tip on the rangers.
My goal is to get proficient with grenades, I’ve been running them in PvE/WvW, fast cast ground targeting seems to help. Does this look right for sPvP hotjoins?

Goad them into burning their Corrupt Boons early on in the fight so you can safely use your Elixir C when you need it.
Despite the buff to gadgets, the best way to counter Necros is an emphasis on Alchemy, I think. The condition removal is just too important.
I’ve been doing pretty well 1v1 against most Necros and Rangers lately in my most recent build… it doesn’t really have a strong place in tPvP but for just general play, it stands well against any profession and is very tanky.
It’s basically a tanky CC power rifle build. I post builds here all the time to no fanfare, so I’ll just say if you’re interested just PM me and I’ll go over the details.
Just for clarification, I was running this build for a few matches this morning with pretty good success.
Elixir C could be swapped out for something else if you want to, but Necros just slap way too many conditions on you these days. I also find their Fear spam bullspit makes Protection Injection more useful than Backpack Regenerator these days.
