Quick Fix to balance us out
In our Hero Menu right where the swap weapon slot should be, there should be a kit placement slot. Most engineers run with just one kit and those that want more kits can go ahead and equip them to their utility skill bar. As far as toolbelt skills is it really that much more to ask to give them additional skill? If its that big of deal, let the engineer pick between 4 of the 5 skills to put on the toolkit bar.

I like it. But maybe 2, not one.
Ill bet the only way this would be implemented, is if you had the ‘kit’ for you “~” key in one of your utility slots… i think Anet would consider it unfair (whether true or not, my point is i doubt theyll do it) to essentially allow engineer to have an aditional utility slot, IE the “kit in weapon swap” function..
and honestly, id rather they dont even attempt that, because you can just keybind your “~” key to one of your utility slots, and would function the same. Dont get me wrong, i Like the idea myself, but i dont forsee it happening… and if it Does happen, we probably wouldnt have access to the toolbelt skill of the kit you have placed in your “weapon swap” button.
honestly though, with 7, 8, and 9 keybinded to Q, E, and R, i find it VERY easy to dance between the kits… but i can understand how its anoyying to some… honestly though, thats the way the class functions… if thats not optimal for someone, then they should roll another class…. even if Engineer’s get some balanced changes anytime soon, the class function of ‘kits’ will most likley Always function the way they do now.

I like this idea – the ‘equip one kit in a weapon slot’ thing. I don’t find kits difficult to use, but I do prefer other skills to be in my Utility slots, so it’d be the only way I’d be using a kit.
Also: If they allowed selection of Toolbelt skills independently of the Utility slots, that would also help greatly, especially for those who aren’t specced for kits.

Right now the profession is a huge pidgeon hole.
Our weapons are intentionally weaker to compensate for our versatility of switching kits on a 1 sec CD.
This basically forces you to take a Kit with you at all times to counter your weak weapons.
Now yes there are some very good “players” out there that can fair very well with a no-kit Elixir setup but the downside is you have to have a very narrow build and stacking Might is almost required to gain enough attack damage to actually finish ppl off.
Some kind of refinement to Engineer function is really needed, whether it be something like the OP idea or some change to make non-kit setups more appealing.
lefthatred, you missed the point. If this was about not being able to use the kits because the keybind is in the wrong place that is silly. The point is to give us a kit in that slot of where a secondary weapon set is for every other class. No other class has to use up one of its utility slots to have a secondary weapon set, only us. This actually allows us to have LESS skills then every other profession. 1 slot that we can put a kit into is all i ask, not hard, not OP… THIS IS FAIR when compared to every other profession in the game. They all get 2 weapon sets (4 for ele’s) 1 heal, 3 util, 1 elite… we get 1 weapon set, 1 heal, 3 util, 1 elite… or 2 weapon sets, 1 heal, 2 util, 1 elite… it isn’t fair for us right now.
You forgot to include the 4 powerful tool belt skills that we have access to at all times with almost no opportunity cost. (no clones needed, no life force needed, no adrenaline needed)
