The kit packs are strictly cosmetic. Can we PLEASE get a toggle for them? I know it’s been discussed before but it’s been a while, thought I’d bring it back up.

Especially now with wings in the game…

While I’m not as keen on the wings as most people, I’m certain more back pieces will be added to the game, and I’d like to show on my character something other than the ugly, bulky, engineer pack. If I’m going to be forced into using kits for a class mechanic (I originally rolled an engineer for the turrets, which aren’t viable at all given the insane bugs present!), I don’t think it’s too much to ask that any of the scantily-clad armor I want to wear is more visible. Let’s face it, the human T3 is ruined by that backpack! ;D

They are definitely not strictly cosmetic.
Enemies have to see what “weapon” the engineer is carrying so in PvP and WvW the Kit-Backpacks are pretty important.

For PvE however its not that important.

But i thought about that too…in another way.

To get some skins for kits (for lots of jumping on 1 place or some engi quests to earn skins) like u got 1 pack of skins and all your kits changes their aperiance a “little” but still got their mane details.

If we got something about 3 packs of kits skins for quests maybe as i said before that would be cool cause there are a lot of engis who uses mostly kits (as i do often) and buying skins for weopens to look like u whant but u still still look almost like eveybody cause u got your not bad ordinary kits.

If we had the option to toggle out backpacks off, we wouldn’t be “that class” anymore.

They arent purely cosmetic they help enemies identify what kit you are using in PVP so they can adapt. The should no more be removed than people should be able to change mesmer effects green or guardian effects red.

I didn’t notice where this changed our attacks. Its purely cosmetic and if you can only tell because of the backpack then it is a disadvantage to an engineer. Mesmer don’t wear a banner that says “MESMER” on it, neither do Ranger, Warrior or guardian…you can still tell who they are, look at the buffs if you can’t tell at a glance.

Simply add a boon icon to the Engie, much like an Elementalist in their chosen attunement, and possibly color coordinate an aura while in each individual kit. But seriously, we swap so often, the boon icon would be the simplest and easiest fix.

They are definitely strictly cosmetic.
Enemies can’t see what “kit” the engineer is carrying in PvP and WvW anyway, the Kit-Backpacks are not important.

For PvE however its even less important.

There, much more accurate now

Then they can tell by what we have in our hands. Flamethrower, Toolkit and Elixirgun are super obvious.
Bombkit or Grenadekit is obvious enough aswell. Is he throwing grenades at you from a long range? No? Bombkit. Ofcourse i wouldnt object to some visuals in the hands of the player. Like holding some grenades, or lugging a bomb, or bandages. That would actually be pretty cool.

As for this fix, simply add another checkbox. “Allow bundles to overwrite backslot visuals” On or Off. There, this applies to all players, just none nearly as much as Engineer.

yes theyre meant to help the enemy identify what weapon you’re using, but does it have to be the same size as my character?

I don’t think they really help with identification that much. On an idle friendly character standing next to you, you can easily tell the difference between the Grenade Kit backpack and Tool Kit backpack. On an enemy actively moving around in combat? You probably can’t unless you’re very familiar with the models, and even then it’s hard to see because they’re probably not giving you many looks at their back.

I, however, like the backpacks. They’re distinctive and make me feel and look like an engineer, which I appreciate because my armor almost never does. About 75% of the medium armor in the game seems to have been designed with thief aesthetics in mind and the other 25% is for rangers. The new aetherblade medium armor on the gem shop is probably the first engineer-themed armor in the entire game.

So with that mind, I wish I could wear a backpack more often, and it annoys me that it suddenly disappears in combat when I switch out of my kit. I’d like a toggle to just wear the Tool Kit backpack all the time so I can always look like an engineer.
