Reaper
Reapers are fine, tricky though. Dragon Hunters kitten me up beyond belief.
When you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all.

any advice then? I am doing fine with DH staying away from them and dodging traps. And there is like 2+ reapers every game I play so I could use some advice.

Healing turret -> Rocket Charge -> Detonate Healing Turret (while in mid rocket charge animation)
Pretty much 100% heal.
Curently I’m running with something like that:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASnUUBVXhlYBubBEqil3iie3D+jX8iaik4boiwAA-TJBFABiXGYhHAQL7PAwFAAA
(you can use soldier’s gear, or mix soldier with zerker too)
When reaper is out of reaperform for (has no Stability) use combo:
- ThunderClap(stun) → Granade Barrage → Rocket Charge (still in lightining field, so 3xdaze) for realy high chunk of damage.
(edited by Miltek.2104)
Reaper has limited mobility, highly telegraphed attacks, and little stability outside of Reaper Shroud. So you kill them much like a regular Necro. CC the hell out of them and burst them down. Dodge the big tells.
When they come out of Reaper Shroud, Thunderclap + Rocket Charge followed by Slick Shoes, Hammer 2 & 4, then Acid Bomb. Just make sure defenses not up. Don’t attack them when Spectral Armor is up, you’re basically healing them. Spectral Armor pops automatically at 50% hp.
I’ve found reapers and DH’s particularly enjoyable to fight as well. A very good challenge. I try to soften up with range first (marksman), put down my fields with mortar, start orbital strike, pop stability, roll in with qlue bomb and drop BOB.
To get away from reapers I use Acid Bomb, and rifle 5. Then I run like a chicken dropping bombs behind me
Thanks everyone for your replies. Some things I definitely had not thought of or didn’t know to look for.
I have found Purge gyro to come in fairly handy.
I got a wild hair and decided to go full on scrapper with hammer, and scrapper runes. The healing gyro, blast gyro, bulwark, purge, and sneak gyro. Shocking speed, Rapid regeneration, and Final salvo. I have a constant 750 heal tic up before using healing gyro. Protection injection and iron blooded, combined with -7% damage gives me all kinds of direct damage negation. Add in some heals and damage from bunker down, and I find well timed dodges and gyro rotation allows me to simply stay in my enemies face and have my fun.
Cleansing synergy, hidden flask, and transmute all working together with purge gyro seems to handle any conditions just fine for me.

Mortar 5 > Egun 4 > Hammer 3
that is one if the best combos you can pull off on scrapper. the damage and might is great, and it heals you back to full. absolutely excellent to do on top of a reaper.
I use super elixir on Egun basically on CD too, it heals to 1k and pulses heals for 12 seconds. excellent.
with my build you can also rotate toolkit and hammer blocks. combine those with evades, blinds from Mortar and CC from toolkit and hammer and the enemy can hardly touch you, and if he does healing back to full is easy.
toolkit pull can be used in melee range as a knockdown, and it’s great to pull people into thunder clap too.
rotate those kits, use those cooldowns and wreck face.

I didn’t know combos were so legit. I have been using elixer gun 5 and 4 and thats about it :x
@choovanski why elixer H?
That build is a joke, as is memebattle. No decent condi with celestial stats… mindboggling.
Nevertheless, you are extremely well equipt to counter Reaper with that travesty.
Auto with EG for weakness, most Reaper’s are Marauder. Use stunbreaks as necessary.
Hammer 5 into Hammer 3 for CC/burst/healing combo. Follow with 2 if they are on the field or 4 if they are off and winding up a big hit.
You’d be better off with a good build though. Swap Shoes for Flamethrower and it starts to look a lot better right off the bat.

Please try not to throw out such blatantly false information.

@choovanski why elixer H?
the water field from HT is not needed as you have one on mortar. H & it’s toolbelt give a lot of boons, imo those are more beneficial than the water fields for the build. i use H just for boons a lot of the time, the build has so many other sources of healing in it (bunker down, super elixer, elixer shell) that you can heal back to full without using your heal so using it to boon up before a fight doesn’t put you at a disadvantage. it’s a good 6k heal too, & because of inventions it clears two condis.
basically i take H for the protection & might. it also synergises with bunker down to give you almost perma regen.
combos are the bread and butter of engineer. thats why the build takes mortar. it gives you AOE cleave & a bunch of combo fields. you can get frost armour from it which makes you super tanky, & a bunch of other cool stuff.
part of me wants to drop S for bomb kit so i have more combo fields, but S is so hard to give up.

But regardless what you said was false, currently power reaper isn’t as strong as condi reaper by a long shot. Condi lives forever and does the most condi damage in the game (thanks to chill dealing 700 damage a tick and being up 100% of the time.) Reapers aren’t impossible but they’re not easy.
ive moved to holebrak over pack if anyone cares

I’m using Soldier + Rifle, Explosions / Tools / Scrapper and I just get continually wrecked by any Reaper with two fingers. It is such a hard counter, I can’t even try and fight them.
Problems:
- chill sucks – when combined with cripple, it is basically hard cc. Alone, it MUST be cleansed or else you cannot avoid high-damage melee attacks. However, they reapply it so often I spend most of the fight trying to get un-chilled, or escaping. Even with Rifle 4 and Rocket Boots, it seems like I am always chilled and can’t fight properly (affects Rifle 5, etc.). The fact that it also deals good damage is just too much.
- unblockable marks are oppresive – given that my main defense on this build is Gear Shield, I just die when facing a necro with this trait. They always lead with staff 3 or 5, which makes it near impossible to dodge the rest of them. The problem is that I don’t know they’re running that trait until they hit me, and then I’m already dead because I committed to staying on a point or engaging when I should have run.
- plague signet is anti-fun – Obviously, the solution to some of these problems is to kite from a distance and take them down with ranged damage. However, most of my ranged damage (grenades, mortar) also apply conditions, and this does more harm to me than them, because they immediately plague signet them off at instant speed once I land my attacks. Now I have to disengage again because of chill, poison, bleed, etc.
Any advice would be appreciated. I just can’t fight them at all.
I honostly load em up with conditions. If I see they have plague signets I dont apply burning to prevent to get myself killed.
When they go in shroud I make sure there is distance. Stealth and soft CC on them helps alot since they cant really cleanse it. I tend to use sustain when they are in shroud, be more defensive. When they pop out I unleash my wrath
Edit: Sorry I didnt really come to your build. Reapers easily counters those kinds of builds so yeah thats a pity one. I recommend using skills like net shot in their shroud. Other than that try to play defensive and slowly drain their life force.
Don’t fight them alone if you can help it. Necros seem to still be our counter in most cases.

Not sure the point of calling it “anti-fun”. I doubt they fill the conditions you put on them in the first place was any fun for them either.
Basically, This is an animation you should make an effort to learn, and focus on dodging it, in my opinion.
Also, if you looked before you made this thread, there is a thread titled ‘reaper’ a few threads down, it discusses this issue also.

A good player can still come up with sub-optimal builds, my man.
One is not required to roll over and give in to the memes.
What is the animation on plague signet? The wiki says it’s instant. It seems to be instant. Is it not?
I suggested making a necro and go into the PvP lobby and play it. That is how I learned to play against builds that I had difficulty with.
