Haven’t played for around a year or more. Looking to get some small scale WvW, maybe a little solo roam. People recommended I go with a condition based Engi.

Whatever I used to know about the game almost certain no longer applies. But I guess there’s a patch coming up for engis, so I guess this is a good time to pick one up. Never played one before, so it will all be new to me.

What do you guys think about the current state of Engineers for WvW and PVE? Is it worth investing time into leveling up and gearing an engi for someone who’s getting back into the game?

I’m a blank slate, so I have no bias towards class or build., only that it works well for farming up some gear, and has a good spec for WvW.

WvW Roaming we are really strong, one of the best I would say with a shared first place with Thief. Although that is my personal opinion, you could argue that Thief is better at it than we are. For PvE, we are ‘alright’. We generally are not the first pick when it comes to an ideal party but we still are able to apply a ton of damage and provide vulnerability, might and stealth.

In WvW roaming and sPvP, engineer is one of the top dogs. Excellent at what it does and without a doubt a good profession to invest in.

PvE they’re not at the top but they are at the door. DnT recently did a what-if DPS test in a scenario where FGS on the ele got nerfed and Engineer rose up to be one of the top DPS professions and built a niche because they can stack vulnerability better then any other profession. Outside of speedrunning groups I don’t think there’s any problem with engy though, they’re harder then faceroll warriors but largely if you know what your doing your just as effective as any profession at a mid to mid-high playing level.
