Recommendations for keybinds?
some people will disregard the “turning” buttons all together and o something like move your heal to Q and kits to E,R,T. If your hands arent big enough to reach your F keys on top of a keyboard that has a gap between the number and the function keys, you can put your toolbelt on QERT and you kits on ZXC. Things like that. I havent done these myself (but I should play with them) just some suggestions because kits on 789 are pretty far over there.
bind tool belt 1-4 => 1, Q , E, R
bind attack 1 => left alt
bind look backwards => left shift
then ideally, bind dodge + F6-F10 on the mouse

Since F1-F4 aren’t far from “WASD”, the only problem might be 6-0 keys or 7-0, which should be moved somewhere closed: Q/E/R/T/Z/X/C.
For me 6 is on good spot. 7 – X, 8 – C, 9- Q, 0 – R, everything else stays the same.
Yeah, I run a lot of MMOs using WASD for strafing in the 4 directions. I also bind QERZ and 1-4 since those are easiest to reach. I use a standard 4 button mouse with a mousewheel for zoom.
I use a cheapo standard keyboard. $10 special! Durable, but no worries if it breaks or gets something spilled on it. I’ve been really considering upgrading mouse and keyboard for hardcore gaming, but I’ve been playing this way for so long it’s hard to envision keyboard and mice being worth more than $10-20 each.
What’s mostly getting me is getting my fingers to remember which key works with each kit. Especially when each kit does different things using the same keys. Any tips for building muscle memory? Or is it just a matter of practice?
Some tips:
- Put your Interact hotkey close to your healing skill, e.g. F = healing skill, G = Interact. It’s often more beneficial to pick up your Healing Turret after you’ve overcharged it, and having both hotkeys close to each other makes it easier to pull off.
- Consider changing your elite to SHIFT + <>. That way you don’t accidentally activate your elite.
- If F1-F4 is too far away for you you can also try to bind them to SHIFT + 1 – SHIFT + 4.
Otherwise, yeah it’s mostly a matter of practice.
Other than a mouse, the thing I found helped most was switching from WASD to ESDF – you get a lot more keys within usable reach. If you’ve got a clickable mouse wheel that helps a lot too (I use it for elite)
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
In the options, make sure Use Free Camera is checked! That way when you’re running in a direction you can use left click to turn the camera and throw grenades behind you while not changing the direction you’re going!
Vee Wee’s hotkeys are like this!
Weapon!: 1-5
Heal!: Z
Utilities!: Q E R
Elite!: F
Toolbelt! Shift + Q E R F
Dodge!: Mouse4
Weapon Swap!: Mouse5
Wahoo! Bye frands!

Changes I made to keybinds were:
R – Healing
Z/X/C/V – Utility/Elite
Mouse 4 – Dodge (turn off double-tap dodging)
I found F1-4 close enough to WASD to keep it.
An extra tip is that ` will stow your current kit (or do nothing if you have no kit), so that can be handy for swapping back to your normal weapon.
“Shortcut” tab > “Target”
Add to the end " -bmp"

get one of these and you wont have any keybind issues anymore (but maybe money issues cause these things are expensive as kitten but worth it in the long run)
Toolbelt = CTRL + 1,2,3,4
Weapon = 1,2,3,4,5
Heal = SHIFT + 1
Utilities = SHIFT + 2,3,4
Elite = SHIFT + 5
Additionally I have the back browser button on my mouse set to the 1 key for spamming nades.
