Replace engineer backpacks with belt backs

Cool idea. I prefer the backpack but am not against an option of the two.

Not really, just similar. The reason I went with canteen belts is because the flamethrower needs a fuel tank, and the elixir gun pack has multiple tanks of potions. Obviously these images are just to give you an idea, not to be used exactly. But image the flamethrower fuel tank (the glass jug with golden fuel inside) being worn on the hip, or the elixir gun’s potion tanks being arranged around the belt, all slashing around their different colored goop while you run around. Seems like it would work to me.
Why not just make our current backpacks… smaller? Or just add the option of hiding them seems to be the easiest thing.

Considering that they haven’t added the option to hide them in spite of being begged to since release, and the rate of new back skins being produced, I would guess that just having the option to hide them isn’t the easiest thing. Either that or they simply don’t want them hidden; they need them to be seen in the same way and for the same reason as a warrior needing to display his shield or hammer. Or more to the point for the same reason an elementalist’s hands glow in a way to display their current attunement.

Then give us a little boon icon like Elementalists do depending on what kit we’re in, the back belts requires a complete new series of sprite design and is highly less likely to get implemented as such.

This actually seems like a good fix. Anet very rarely adds new content except in the form of skins, most of the “new” stuff are just functions of recycled things already in the game.
I just don’t see why, for someone who can stuff a giant ram’s head in their pelvic region even when naked, there has to be such a huge backpack to carry gear in.

Speak for yourself mate, I absolutely love the Engineer backpacks and would be devastated to see them removed.
A on/off toggle for people who dislike them is a good suggestion perhaps.

You know I didnt care much about the look of “the sack” until I put on all COF armour. Wow. “The Sack” is about as decent looking as “Butt Hair”. Its so bad I consider this a bug!
