Hey everyone! I’m semi new to this whole Engineer thing and very new to elixirs, which I’ve become pretty interested in recently. My skilltree’s going to be ten into the Explosives tree for those burning criticals, thirty into the alchemy tree, obviously and ten into the firearms tree. I’ve heard that pistols are the way to go because of their fantastic conditions effects, but I also see some epic traits for the rifle in that firearms tree. Are they both equally effective in that build, or is one superior to the other?

Are you talking about spvp, wvw or pve?

It sounds like you want to mostly DPS, is that right?

Oh, right! PVE, please. And yes, it’s a DPS and support build, I suppose.

well if u get the 3rd tier trait hgh elixers go which ever way you want with it since u can really stack up the might, personally the ability to stack up that much might for a good amount of time really brings a new level to the engi as you no longer need that condition damage or power (depending on what ure looking at doing) stat in your gear and it can be put to better things like more tank with out sacrificing ure overall damage

Most of the time DPS and especially DPS elixir builds run pistols. I’ve always preferred shotguns though (i.e. rifles).

I run a 10/30/0/30/0 build and can swap traits for either rifle or pistols. If I run pistols I use my condition armor and with rifle my berserker. Just depends on what I want to do at the time, and the switching is painless.
