Its been bugging me a while that all the traits for rifle are under firearms. I understand that firearms as a name would include rifles but the stat bonuses do not really apply for rifle. Critical is fine but extra condition damage is not well spend, I mean what are you going to be using it for? Just blunderbuss? Stat wise, the rifle might have been better suited on explosives, with condition duration being better suited for it on its immobilize and vulnerability skills. Although I don’t expect such a drastic change, even a simple small bleed on another rifle skill would help in reducing wasted potential.

Simply put, rifle is power damage, pistol is condition damage, so what is rifle doing on a condition damage benefiting trait line?

I know someone would reply “but you can bleed on critical hits with sharpshooter!” Well you can do that with any weapon, that is part of the firearms branch, not the rifle itself.

Also I agree that the rifle is a decent weapon, I would just like to see its potential maximized.

If our rifle was actually a rifle then I could understand precision. You wait for the right shot and take it and if your precise you pay off huge. As its stands that is not really what we have. We have a confused shotgun/rifle. If they the devs would just go ahead and commit to either then the approriate tree would be more obvious. Unfortunately though, if they put rifle in the explosives tree then you would wind up with rifle, bombs, nades, and whatever else traits all in one tree. As if I don’t have enough problems picking traits that synergize as is.

Damage in the vitality line, cooldown in the precision line(not exactly talking about rifles, but you can see the annoyance). Few of our traits are actually useful, especially for the stat allocation they work with.

When I’m spec’ing my engineer, I COMPLETELY ignore the stats that come with the traits. They have absolutely no correlation to the traits they work with, EXCEPT for the fact that firearms is conveniently perfect for engi condi builds (pres/damage).

Engineer traits are just all over the place, a giant mess if you ask me.

I often do the same. I rely far more on gear and consumables to take me in the direction stat wise that I want. For example, even if I don’t go precision I still build the tools tree that has crit damage mainly because I find it to be one of the most useful trees the engineer has. Toolbelt recharge is awesome too. I hate that I feel compelled to always include the vitality tree too…simply because the toughness tree offers very little outside of the first major trait selection.
