Rifles are pretty good?
[EU] Gandara
Max damage potential at max range.
Engineer – medium armor – best in close combat with rifle.
Warrior – heavy armor – best at long range with rifle.
It just makes no sense.
Engineer rifle 1 is much higher sustained dps innately.
skills 3,4, and 5 are very melee locked.
But also high damage potential. Basically, only rifle 1 pierces, while the melee skills are aoe.
Throw wrench is 2.5 skill coeff with discharge and double hit.
Warrior rifle 1 is definitely weaker.
War volley does alot to make up for it though.
Traited for pierce, all skills gain from it. kill shot, volley, vul shot, cripple shot.
war can 2 or 3 sigil. A bloodlust weapon swap sigil to stack and easily swap to rifle with 250+power. While an engineer would need to swap out of combat to do that.
Killshot is 3.25 skill coeff.
A glass cannon warrior, can skill slot for 14 stacks of might, nearly 100% up time.
Both can trait/sigil/rune for about +46% damage.

This. Engineer doesn’t have a rifle, engineer has a shotgun. Nothing wrong with this per se, you have to take it in context with other abilities and where other classes are with regards to this.
Don’t forget Warriors immunity against nerfs.
- Two-handed weapons can now be customized with two sigils.
Engineer- “Hip Shot” skill now does 45% less damage to balance against using two sigils.
I guess I didn’t take into account sigil stacking between two weapon sets with the Warrior. However, on the Warrior forums you’ll find people kittening about their rifle damage outside of Kill Shot. It’s hard to know who to believe, since there’s no true DPS meters in this game.
Another thing that doesn’t sit well with me was the Warrior design philosophy statement. A pure range Warrior should only do ‘decent damage’ at range, and be behind Ranger+Pet damage.
I’m just trying to pick a profession between the two (Warrior/Engineer) to level to 80. I mostly do DEvents and WvW. At the moment, I’m just really liking the Engineer and all the CC the profession has on top of what seems like very good damage. But I don’t want to be naive.

I leveled an engineer first to 80 at game launch (well head start). I was so unimpressed with the engineer with the rifle I rolled a warrior.
Engineer is full exotics glass cannon build with literally nothing I can do to increase power, crit and crit damage any more, not with spec not with gear.
Warrior is exotic gear, green rings, amulet, earrings.
My warrior has crit in wv3 for 16k, followed with a 2k,3k,4.5k,6k
Engineer just cant touch that damage. The warrior does it all at 1200 yards and has more base line health and more armor. The engineer has to get into close quarters to do the burst and has less basline health and armor.
Bottom line is simple. Engineer is good for pushing people back on walls…warrior is good at pushing people back in the field.
Also, warrior has piercing shots…when you see 13k, 14k, 15k, 12k, 11k all lined up, one kill shot because it pierces through all targets in its line of sight, when that happens you will know engineers are gimped.
Ranged rifle spec is warrior hands down.
Brutal shot, volley > anything the engineer can do
Dont even get me started about switching weapons…be it a long bow or two axes…warrior just has a lot more flavor.
I dunna man, I love my engineer…I love his name, is looks..but when it comes to killing people rifle spec its a joke…heck pve its a joke, leveling bombs was a lot more safe and faster than rifle spec. On the warrior I just lolled while leveling, soooo easy in comparison to my mesmer or engineer.

Engineer rifle builds needs something that can to even out the odds. I too feel warrior rifle speccing is a LOT better than engis rifle speccing.

I think the best way to view the rifle is as a compliment to your choice of kit slots, not as a focus to a build.
I will say this is purely from a WvW perspective, I don’t PvE.
Rifle is just one set of abilities which have their uses, there are potentially 15 other (weapon toolbar) abilities that could be used in conjunction with rifle + toolbelt skills.
Surely the comprehensive view would be which kits compliment the rifle set up? i.e power, precision. and how that build as a whole(including kits and toolbelt skills) compares to a rifle warrior than just the 5 skill choices while rifle is equipped?
Just seems that people are dumbing down engi skills to the warrior’s level.
