Instead of the rocket boots skill making you fly backward why not send you in the direction you are running?

Same mechanic as dodge roll.

There is so much potential for the engi.

Oh god no! Terrible Terrible idea. They just need to turn slick shoes into something useful. What they need to do is make it so it doesn’t knock you down.

Right now the Charr racial is better than this skill. P.S. for the Berserker Engineers out there, the toolbelt skill for the Charr Racial does about 7-8k damage so it’s a must if Power/Prec/Crit built.

Also not everyone runs charr engi.

i would prefer it if you could select your direction like warr’s whirlwind attack..

also i would prefer it if the skill actually worked when you have stability on..

I absolutely agree with the OP’s idea. Directional control would be amazing. If Anet insists on knocking us down for the skill, launch us further than someone can run in the knockdown time. Because as of now its a single direction self CC. The only thing it has going for it is the short cooldown, blast finisher, and a bit of burn from the toolbelt, all of which are not what we need on a stun-breaker.

Also, i’d love slick shoes if the cooldown wasn’t such a killer.

(edit) I hate comparing skills across professions, but for reals, the thief has shadow step, a dual stun breaker/condition removal with a further range on only a 50sec cooldown. The OP’s suggestion would make the ability on par with elixer S, and it would still work while under stability.

I do want Rocket Boots to be better, but I think that if they removed the knockdown it would be good enough. The only reason I would carry this skill is really for the close range kick burn and then jump back.

I think that maybe if they changed the kick to inflict like 5-10 stacks of bleed it would be much more effective. Why? If we’re that close already we are going to Blowtorch the enemy so that super long burn is going to probably get removed.

I agree 100%. Without the knockdown, i’d use it without a doubt.

It would be a good idea to remove the self knockdown and be able to choose which direction to blast off to. We don’t really have a real gap closer and this might work out.

I really like the idea of Rocket Boots being changed to a directional skill.
We are lacking in gap closers/openers and we already have 2 other skills that move you backwards.
Acid Bomb on EG works fine as a backward escape and it fits the kit perfectly because it is not really an assault kit.
Jumpshot on Rifle is gimped with the hangtime delay to it doesn’t really work to close/open ground unless the target is immobile and even then its would be faster to just run.

At the very least the knockdown needs to be taken off of Rocket Boots because the pros don’t justify the con of getting knocked on your face.
