Soooo, I’m still fairly new to the class, just wanted to ask if rocket boots is really badly affected by terrain? I do lag quite often, but the second half of the jump moves me the complete opposite way to the way I was facing often enough to make me think it’s not just lag. Is it just me?

It’s an odd quirk to the ability. I’m not sure if it’s entirely linked to the terrain, but my guess it that it would be so. Though it’s something that’s generally difficult to reproduce.

So no, it’s not just you. It seems to happen to everyone that uses the ability.

A small tip. If you don’t want to risk the roll part of the animation potentially sending you backwards, but sure to swap out of a kit just as you land. However, you need to make sure to use the weapon swap key to “drop a bundle” instead of hitting your utility skill again.

So for instance, have the toolkit out when you use the boots (or take it out immediately after activating them), and then just prior to landing at the end of the leap, hit the weapon swap key. This should produce a “you can’t drop bundles in the air” message, and the animation will be cancelled, thereby preventing the roll after the leap. It’s basically the same technique that you use to cancel the leap from the elixir gun’s acid bomb.

Just make sure that you don’t hit the weapon swap to early during the rocket boot’s leap because then it will cancel the actual leap and can severely or completely eliminate the distance you travel. It might take some practice.

I’ve had it happen while leaping in mid air, so…

Not to say the chances aren’t higher, while on the ground. They probably are.

I will try that tip with swapping the kit as you land, thanks for that ^^

When I think of it, it seems to happen more in WvW than PvP. That may just be because I’ve been playing more of that recently though. All I know is that leap has landed me in the middle of a zerg I was trying to avoid more than once lol :P

No, it happened in the September patch.

I fell a few times in EOTM thanks to rocket boots , for some reason sometimes when you land you can go sideways… maybe when you hit a rock or an itme it alters your direction

I have done extensive testing. I am not seeing anything that should change the angle. I feel that if further reinforced by the fact that it happen as the same point in the animation distance. It can send you 90 degrees left, 90 degrees right, or 180 degrees right back to your original starting point.

I tried the kit swapping trick, it works great so thanks very much for that tip Yams ^^

This bug has been around ever since they changed how rocketboots work from a self launch backwards with stunbreak to more of a leap forward that we see today.

What causes it is up to debate. Sometimes it’s like terrain causes it, but at other times it almost seems random.
