It wouldn’t make it too good, it would just bring us one step further up to the level of classes like mesmer, theif, and warriors who get evasion like it’s going out of style.

More like change Acid Bomb to jump forward

Try the “About Face” command. Takes practice, but it can definitely be done.

Also, that would mess up one of my favorite combos, Jump Shot -> Blunderpuss -> Big Old Bomb -> Acid bomb to get out of dodge and range with grenades at a safe distance.

better change would be add an evade to acid bomb or allow acid bomb to break immobilize. Op your suggested change would make rocket boots op.

How about making it work like the evade key:

  • If you’re not moving/pressing a direction key, you “jump” backwards as it is now.
  • If you’re moving in any direction, Acid Bomb propels you in said direction.

Also how about making you immune to Immobilize/Cripple/Chill during the Rocket Boots animation? Not as strong as evade and imo fits the skill purpose.

It’s actually a great idea IMO since often times you can trigger it to break an immob and then be immob’d again immediately after without actually moving anywhere and basically rendering the the skill worthless. There’s precedence for this as well since Ele’s Burning Speed was made to be an evade for similar reasoning.

Rocketboots as they are now:

Pro’s
-Nice condition support from the BA’s burning and medium dmg.
-Removes all soft-cc’s without cast-time.
-Propels you in the direction you’re facing, scaling its travel range up by power shoes or swiftness (up to 900), therefore giving you a nice escape or range increase in case of mid/melee heavy opponents.

Con’s
- No stun-breaker, therefore limiting you to 1 kit or 2 kits with one necessarily being EG (in wvw and pvp that is)
- No evade, therefore a potentially wasted CD if triggered within an icefield or other soft-cc applying aoe. This is most annoying against bwikki or in zergs.
- Likely to bug out and propel you in random directions when hitting the floor and attempting the 2nd phase dodge-roll (that is also not handled as evade), worst case being to propel you backwards to your starting-location which also happens to be in a pve-boss’ deathzone.

I really like to use them for their pros, but for almost all situations its a wasted utility-slot, especially since it bugs out often and therefore most likely causes your death.

How so? As of now it does the same effects of some other professions weapon skills.

Since we have to occupy a utility slot for our version, it is perfectly reasonable for it to have more beneficial value. Particularly when compared to the fact that we are designed to lose a utility slot to a kit, and we only have one kit with either a stun breaker or a condition cleanse.

If you leave the range of the rooting field between the pulses, it will work.
If you happen to use the skill just before a pulse, you’ll just get rooted again.

I always felt that having Rocket Boots supress effects received after activation would be the best way to handle this shared issue.

For example, receiving the Immobilize condition after activating Rocket Boots should cause you to retain the immobilize condition while still allowing you to remain propelled through the air until landing. Then would the effects of the immobilize kick in, preventing you from turning or pivoting.

I honestly don’t feel Engineers need access to Evade but I do feel Rocket Boots need a way to function as a more efficient soft CC cleanser/mobility. It doesn’t make much sence for them to evade attacks while jetting through the air at break neck speeds.

Giving the Rocket Boots the ability to supress effects inflicted on them mid flight would actually make sence. Granted this is a computer game, Anet has mentioned several times that they want their skills and mechanics to feel “realistic” or, that is to say make sence.

To me, when someone activates Rocket propelled jets from their feet it should carry them for the entirety of the Rockets designed distance, weather the person who activated them is still living or not.

I just don’t think getting stunned in the air should stop your travel either. The only exception to this, I’d say would be blowbacks, knockdowns and impassable effects. Like guardian/Elemental bubbles or walls ect. Aside from those I think the Engineer should remain soaring through the air regardless of what strikes him after activation. Even if you are downed in mid air, you should finish your flight before dropping.

I think you should still be able to take damage and be struck while flying though.

I’d argue that it would be harder to hit a target moving at break neck speeds than a target rooted to the ground, hence the increased evasion?

Yeah I don’t really have anything to add though…

Your not wrong,

I was just thinking of it more as if someone is shooting at you or swinging at you if you move fast in a direction it’s not as though you are dodging the swings or the shots your just moving faster intro/through them, Not so much nimbly dodging and avoiding.

I mean, it’s a completely valid point and I would love to have Rocket Boots simply grant you evade particularly if it’s easier to implement (ergo faster to implement) aaaaaaand Because it would be the best out of all options for the Engineer.

My argument would be:

-"No thief’s and Rangers evade attacks through naturally quick reflexes and honed combat skills. Not because they are moving at a greater speed. (MPH ect) "

And what destroys my argument is this:

-“Well Elementalists and Warriors can Evade attacks… And they aren’t supposed to be ninjas…”

Hehe so it’s not that I don’t think engineers couldn’t reasonably have Evade when held to other professions.

So your not wrong!
Just a preference thing.

If it gained an evade, they would at least double the cooldown.

They would also reduce the damage by 30%, as is customary.

Be careful what you wish for.
