So what would be best weapon build for leveling and maybe doing dungeons to 80 ?

Dungeons you’ll want a standard 66002 build with EG/FT/nades

For leveling, Bombs and maybe flamethrower.

You weapon will be rifle in both, though you don’t use it much.

Okay im struggling agianst mobs using nades/bombs at 20 yet hopin to do damage like 300-500 to kill em but seems doing 25-60 damage wtf ? yet when i use flamethrower for cleaving it does way better damage ?

by this he means dont autoattack with it, because the other skills are good enough to use on cd pretty much every time (though 2 and 4 are situational) :P

1. upgrade your gear every 5 levels.
there are npc merchants which sell white gear for your current level and will update their inventory, according to your level. the easiest-to-find ones are in divinity-reach, southern top level where the bank is. from there on walk down the west-ramp and you’ll find them on the right side in a corner.
also buying trinkets from the renown-hearts vendors once a heart got completed may seem like a waste of carma, but bolsters your stats decently as well.

2. kite mobs and use the terrain to get them into chokes, so your bombs / other aoe’s are most effective

3. use elixir H in the beginning as a heal since it’s easy to use, but learn the healing-turret-combo soon since it’s our best heal (place the turret, overcharge it immedeatly (works best if you spam the healing skill) and then blow it up right away to blast-finish its waterfield). if you use the turret, F1 + rifle #5 is a nice heal as well

4. you have easy and heavy access to cc’s as a engi. use rifle #4, big old bomb, thumper-turret overcharge, throw mine to cc the cat out of any veteran / group of mobs that could overwhelm you otherwise.

5. equip rocket-boots to break immobilize/cripple/chill and for escaping the melee-range of mobs. netshot (rifle #2) and net-turret (mainly it’s belt-ability) help you to keep mobs on distance as well. if you trait for exploding turrets, your healing-turret becomes a nice cc as well.

6. Flamethrower has decent damage on #2, but #1 is under-performing drastically. Switch back to rifle or another kit whenever FT #2 is on cd.

7. if you use bombkit and nades together, smokebomb and nades #3 are awesome loads of blind, that keep a group of mobs perma-bklinded if used decently. if you run the Flamethrower as well, #5 adds additional blind.

keep these 7 points in mind and experiment with all your utilities, then you shouldn’t run into problems on engi ever while leveling.

come back once you’ve hit 80 and you’ll get some help for pvp / wvw / endgame pve as well.

I couldn’t imagine trying to level with bombs. The blind is good, sure, but the range is atrocious and it’s most effective in a group. Grenades aren’t bad, but honestly the flamethrower is one of my favorites for leveling solo. The knockback and blind are more than enough CC to stay alive with, and the FT auto-attack isn’t quite as bad as people say…

If you’re going to run grenades though, make sure to switch your targeting mode to either Instant or “Fast with Range Indicator” (my personal choice). It takes some getting used to, but you’ll be glad you aren’t double clicking all the time.

I’m not sure what you mean by this?

Survival isn’t all about out-damaging a mob while you’re face-tanking each other, which I have a feeling may be the case here. If it’s not please explain what you mean. There are control and support measures you should be utilizing (in addition to Dodge/Evade (if you’re a Charr)) as well as damage while fighting anything.

it isnt the blind, its that they do like 66% more dps than anything besides nades. you can abuse the ai to group up enemies and overcome your short range through playstyle instead of standard build options.

Bombs are higher damage than nades while leveling, its’ not till grenadier that you see nades as being an awesome choice. Also one of the first adept traits you could get is forceful explosions which increases the range quite a bit, but honestly you can just run in a tightish circle and things will die from yoru bombs as they will be running over them as they explode, it’s braindead easy, and why I suggest it. FT is ok, nothing particularly bad to say about it, but I never found it as good as bombs outside of PVE events where I simply want fast tags.

For leveling condition damage is usually very bad. It’s much more behind power damage, then it is at level 80. Hence i recommend running a power build with rifle flametrower/grenadeS/bomb (choose wich you like most, and use some survivability skills as well for utility).

But honest is honest of all my characters, engineer was the most frustrating to level. Tomes of knowledge helped a great deal, but there were parts that I lvled true, by just playing, and it was harder then most professions.

Turrets might work great also, they distract mobs, but more important, I think they scale on their own, rather then with your stats, this is true for minions at least. If it’s like that (pets are also like that), you can use them as auto leveling, thing, hide behind it, and CC mobs mostly, to safe your turrets.

You will be extremely slow if you plan to level using turrets. They are simply bad. Everywhere!
Use bombs! Buy proper gear, runes and nourishment! Use +x power runes and mix them so you gain the most stats. Bloodlust sigil and some decent food also goes a long way.
They all cheap.
