I had on perplexity runes and I still think they are good for DPS. A friend of mine was using them with sigil of ice. The problem with sigil of ice is 2 seconds on 10 second icd. The new chance to proc is good at 30% ON HIT.

So I suggested rune of grenth and we both tried it out and so far it is alot of fun. If your not running nades then chill is a strong condition your missing. With the runes and at least 20 in explosives you get 4 seconds of chill from sigil of ice, 6 seconds of chill if they proc the on hit, and 6 seconds of chill from healing turret which applies as soon as you lay the turret down.

This wont reveal you if you combo with smoke bomb you get the chill then blast when you blow up the turret so it works out. Also if you leave your healing turret down and press 6 again off cooldown the frost burst is at your location not turrets.

So far I am having alot of fun with it in a standard condi bomb build. He likes flame thrower in his build instead of bombs but I’m leaning more toward flame works with perplexity better. With bombs I feel like it is a really strong chill if they proc either the 4 piece or the get hit with the heal chill then between that and the sigil you should be able to keep close to 100% chill uptime.

I find chill is probably the most hated condition because people hate to move slow and skills on cooldown, and will blow a cleanse much earlier if they have chill on them. Cripple is also good at forcing a early condition cleanse but not as much as chill.

Anyone else running these runes?

Haven’t really played Engi that much, but I’m using Grenth Runes on my Necro.

I get around..
7.5 sec Chill from Spinal Shivers
25% chance to Chill for 3-4 sec on hit
3-4 sec Chill on heal
6-7 sec Chill on Spectral Grasp
6-7 sec Chill on Chillblains
7-8 sec Chill on Dark Path

So yeah, it’s not often I die to melee in SPvP :P

I absolutely love runes of grenth, have done for ages!
And a fun sidenote: they’re cheap as dirt.

Chill is the condition I find the most annoying, so I decided that’s the condition I want to use the most

My favourite healing combo:
put down a healing turret, and overcharge: that heals me but it chills them!
Than explode the turret and in my case that knocks them back as well
And the latest addition: they are knockbacked and still chilled, and I stand under a relfecting bubble with more health, 2 conditions less and a regen ticking while they shoot themselves in the foot…

Yup, I also consider runes of grenth my ‘secret weapon’.
Might from strenght is better, burn from Balthazar is better… but Grenth is more annoying and that’s what I aim for in a fight.
I’m not the killer in our group, I’m the one who draws them out. I’m the one who annoys them so much they want to kill me.

I used to run a build with Grenth runes too, works pretty well. Keeping ppl in a movement and skill recharge lockdown is a key to defeat 90% of the builds out there.
Even condi spamming necros.

Too bad AR was hit s badly, i cant really use that build anymore. Now its back to basic boring HGH spammer build, since i find that about the only grandmaster trait still any good. And Granadier. I wonder when they will get nerfed.

I might have to try this out in spvp. I can handle thieves okay but this slows down gank plans and that helps me live on a point. I gotta find a decent rune set for mesmers since I’m getting better at IDing them on point but they are still pretty elusive haha. this might be just what I need. Now I just need something for true burst. The clever stuff is fun but yeah heartseeker backstab and warrior burst are making me feel a little outclassed haha

I wouldn’t recommend taking +chill duration runes over +might duration in an HGH build.

There’s really not much you can do versus such a condi heavy team on engi. Most I can recommend is sticking to group fights on a build you know how to play.

Condi warr can be beaten on engi, and you should be able to take condi teefs down on-point.

yes, warrior is with the new pin down fine. Wild bill thiefs are also ok but harder as normal 222222 or 33333 thiefs for me.
Necros are unbeatable. With HGH power or with the Chaith Power build it looks better

I dont think might stacking is really an option without might duration runes.
So Its either chill or hgh. Like i said i used to run it with AR, but that is just to weak now and lost its magic. (for me at least) I agree though that it was an OP trait. (Though many classes have those and nothing being done about that, w/e)

I used to run Chill build with med kit (for easy swapping during combat) grabbing and stowning med kit is concidred using your healing skill so you can effectivly time landing chill on nearby foes. During the fight i tried keeping them chilled with freeze granades and also swapping med kit in battle. Runes of grenth give 2-3 sec chill and deals dmg and there is also a sigil (i believe it was hydromancy) That i used on my pisol. That too gives 2-3 sec chill on using a heal skill.

I ran 30 0 0 30 5. Granadier, AR and speedy kits.
