Scope?
Yep, posted another thread in the bug section. Still no replies though.
Yup, still bugged… 7 months and counting.
Honestly, they should just change the trait to something else that works. I sure as hell wouldn’t miss it, but I’m a pure sPvPer so I have something against standing still in a fight. :P
Well it’s somewhat decent for static discharge I supose..
Considering they never acknowledged it was bugged, I’m starting to consider it probably isn’t. Theres also a chance that the trait is so bad you can’t even tell when it works :P

Hmm, I guess if I go deep into Tools you’ll be right, since there really isn’t anything else I’d grab in a Static Discharge build.
But then again, if I were to make that build, I’d rather invest my points elsewhere, like Firearms. Also, I don’t see the point in going more than 15 points into Tools… and even that extra 5 points for Inertial Converter is a stretch.

It’s not like scope made sense anyways… I mean your rifle auto-attack is still firing from the hip, and you dont even look down your hairtriggers on your pistols when firing.
Scope? Nope.
Scope works, it just doesn’t display on the character sheet (same with Sigil of Accuracy and the Target the Weak minor trait).

I think a while back people were trying it out while having 4% crit chance on dummies to see if trait worked, they were getting results close to 4%
Just did a quick test in Heart of the mists:
Zero precision from gear, only trait points are 20 into tools.
Test fired a rifle 100 times, while holding still naturally.
With Scope: 5 crits in 100 hits.
Without Scope: 6 crits in 100 hits.
sPVP test, may differ from PVE, yadda yadda… Scope is not working.
For the toast!

Use flamethrower to test scope, works around ~10x faster. And yeah, scope still doesn’t work.
yep, i can confirm this to, tested in 100 hits
Well, it does work by not working.
Why? Because engies never aim :P We shoot rifle from hip not from shoulder.
Makes sense scope has no effect because our animations don’t look as we use scope haha
The irony of having scoped rifles and trait “scope” when never aiming ;p
I posted a test in the bug forum if anyone is interested in a not-so-random test.
And it will always be bugged until engies learn to stop shooting from the hips!~

That’s what I’ve been saying!
Watching Thieves get a hotfix within a week of one of their traits being broken by a patch while knowing Engineers have a bugged trait that has gone untouched since release seven months ago is disheartening. I give the developers the benefit of the doubt on most things, but it really is starting to look like they don’t care about the Engineer, the least played profession in the game.
I understand that it could be an issue which requires a lot of coding to fix, and it may have simply not been possible for Anet’s team to tackle it yet without ignoring larger projects. It’s possible (although unlikely) that the thief hotfix took 15 minutes while fixing scope could take days or weeks of man hours, but I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt.
However, they should at least remove the trait from the game until they’re ready to address it. It’s potentially a very strong trait and there are probably a lot of PvE engineers using it without being aware that they’d be just as effective leaving that trait slot empty.
I agree, it existing is a horrific noob trap and at the very least that needs to be addressed.

pretty much this thiefs had the same issue almost and theirs got fixed within the span of what 1-3 days?
just make it a gain 10% crit on full endurance
