Scrapper trait line is a good thing

I agree that the Elite spec shouldn’t be a “take it or be weaker” option. But unfortunately – speaking for PvE only – neither should it be a “take it and you’ll deal less damage” option.
What the Scrapper line needs is a party wide buff, unique debuf or a ~7% damage modifier somewhere within the kit.

I agree that Scrapper does need more party synergy. It does feel a little light in the damage department. Then again, I prefer rifle and p/p over the hammer anyway.

“Not mandatory” and “Weak without hammer” aren’t the same thing. Scrapper is clearly closer to the second.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Scrapper is supposed to be a defensive support Elite spec.
the problem is, your support comes from gyros, and they are crap.
Function gyro is nearly useless in pve… and Anet knows that, they said they were going to try to add something more to it but never did…
We can only hope for a nice offensive support / dps elite spec for the next one…

Chances are we are going to get a mh weapon for the next specialization, so im sure a dps spec would be the way to go, (unless its a trait trying to make shield shine?)

maybe it should be.
after all, one does not expect damage from alchemy or inventions. and if engi had a true 3rd dps line to go with explosives and firearms, that would be the go to instead of the current pick-1-of-4.
we are where we are with elite specs cuz they do too much.

It’s more about that it seems that they should do more than the base profession. So in future you’ll pick 2 base profession trait lines and an elite spec (when there are mutliple ones).
The problem is rather that we are the only profession that gets “weaker” with the elite spec and that seems weird to me. It’s not like we lose nothing for going to be scrapper in the frist place.

we dont get weaker though, we have marginally different dps and have tons more defense

We certainly got the short end of the stick, but we don’t get ‘weaker’ as a blanket statement, we’re just weaker as it applies to general PVE. It’s quite obvious that the designers of scrapper had put very little thought into it’s application in PVE or at least PVE played at the higher end.
I’d point out that Druid and Mesmer both have Elite specs that lower their damage, but they got support Elites which have been put to great use in PVE. We got this tanky selfish Elite that only really does any good in very very niche PVE situations, or in PVP.
I still like it, but again we did get the shorted compared to other professions where pure core builds are the niche and they got a heavy amount of power creep from their elites.
Personally I hope our next Elite is a support elite though, something that can get us a solid role in raids, either as a truly viable replacement for one of the current options or as a worthwhile addition to it.
