Since HoT release all I’ve been hearing about engineers is how OP scrappers are. Yet when I play with them they’re not the most disappointing of the elites, but they’re far from the most impressive. THat said I’m starting to have good results with a dazemancer assault scrapper but it’s still only averagely good. I’m obviously doing something wrong here, but what is it?

What are you doing wrong? I can’t say, but if you want to see how strong Scrapper can be, run a build like the one below (shamelessly stole that one from Chaithh’s Twitch). Builds like these allow for really high sustain with substantial damage.

This is, of course, assuming that you’re talking from a PvP perspective.

What builds have you tried, and what game mode?

I just got the expansion today, but I’m a looooonnnng time Engi. What is the reason that Scrapper has 4 traits that link to Swiftness or Super Speed? I’ve only dabbled so far, but I don’t see these to be of much use in a Melee weapon such as the hammer. I’m pretty much standing still beating up stuff.

Not being snarky. Would appreciate feedback. Is the Speed for Gyros?

Cool build but maybe switch out slick shoes for bomb kit to get access to fire field? Could maybe then do away with the sigil of battle for something else?

no, dont do that. Its important you get not only the knockdown, but a stun break and 2500 HP from the Super Speed toolbet skill.

In pve, the fire field might be worth taking over slick shoes if your group is having trouble stacking might. In pvp it’s not even close; slick shoes are wayy better for the build.

It’s a PvP build…if you want a build for PvE, you’d probably want to change a lot more than just adding a fire field.

Scrapper is the battered wife of Elite Specs. People keep saying there’s good in it, it can change for the better with a few tweaks. But at the end of the day it’s really just a scumbag. Rifle Scrapper is far superior to Hammer Scrapper, plain and simple. Even that though you are no MORE effective than if you were HGH-Soldier.

I wouldn’t claim to be Five Gauge-league of play, but I switched back to pre-patch spec and while during my playtime I see very few other Engie’s in queue, I can definitively say that the ones I do come across I can take 1v1, or at the very least stalemate if they are Nike pros. And I don’t see any difference in their point pressure/presence — I could argue I’m actually more capable of maintaining node contestation.

So I’m with you, I’m not entirely sure where the high praise is coming from lol.

Agreed, but I don’t believe whomever suggested using bombs mentioned anything else. I probably should have quoted them in my reply to make it more clear I was responding to a suggestion and not making one myself.

I actually have not found scrapper all that beneficial in PvP and have been running a bomb/EG/ElixB build with alchemy firearms and explosives.

What gives me the survivability is taking barbarians amulet. Its actually working quite nicely for me and my damage with HGH is very high regardless of loosing out on ferocity. Nothing Scrapper does for me seems to outdo the versatility of my old rifle build.
