Is there a bug with this trait or what’s the deal? It seems like it only works half the time. I’m aware it has an ICD but I mean on quite a lot of occasions it just doesn’t activate. I’m thinking it might have to do with conditions because that’s when it happens the most, when I’m about to hit 25% health with a bunch of conditions on me and it doesn’t even proc.
Anyone else have this problem or know the cause? Very frustrating when you’re trying to outrun a group of people and take a fatal blow that this trait should negate, but doesn’t.
Hmm, given the high burst damage that is around, is it possible you’re going from >25% to 0? Because the thing requires you to be under 25% health and take a hit. So if you get condition bombed slightly above 25% health, you can actually just die of condis without the trait ever procing as well.

I’ve had this too on ym engineer and I’ve been told warriors have had this with last stand.
Unfortunately I can’t test it 100% sure since its so inconsistent.

That’s what it feels like.
With my Warrior, Defy Pain procs almost every time. There’s the odd time that it doesn’t but the majority of the time, as soon as I get to the health threshold, it reliably activates. With Elixir S though, it’s like sometimes it goes off sometimes it doesn’t. A lot of the time I’m low health and really hoping for it to go off so I can eat some of their cooldowns but instead I just go straight to downed state.
If it works differently than Defy Pain then I can understand what the issue is but otherwise, I feel like relying on this trait is a bad idea when you need a safety net.
Well, it seems to go off reliably enough for me, and yea it’s the same proc as defy pain, but I imagine warriors are a bit harder to suddenly burst down. If you’re referring to WvW, there just seems to be so much sudden death syndrome and if the fight is big enough, it can literally come out of nowhere.
It’s a very good trait, but there are some times when this trait will actually kill you because unlike defy pain, elixir s locks you out of all your skills and will leave you to die to condis. So this means this trait is often not that helpful against condi enemies. We generally take it due to the lack of a good alternative and the rest of alchemy being strong with hgh making it better (Backpack regen is alright, but sorta meh in this meta).

The real determining factor whether endure pain or self regulating defenses is working well for you: vitality. Warriors have more base health, and if you aren’t running celestial/marauder/soldier, then self regulating defenses loses lots of its success rate.
condis that bring you below 25% havent ever procced srd. youre required to take some direct damage. same for endure pain.
a backstab (for example) that does enough damage to down you will down you and skip the proc because you have to be able to survive the hit cuz srd procs after taking the hit.
There is only 1 moment this trait “bugs out” for me. When its triggered by DH trap that. and for some reason when im small i dont take dmg from traps, but if traps put me under 25% it triggers and kills me instantly.
