Q:
Should enginer split into 2 class
….hmmm to close to the hints of goblin vs. gnome engineering in another game
I would like Golemancy added please.
I think the way to go is allow an engineer to select a ‘school’ of engineering that has some abilities that relefct teh character of the school, kits might be a way to do this. One y school might have some abilities for building / repairing golems, one might deal more with mechanical things (turrets?), one might have more to do with energy devices/weapons (flame thrower/plasma gun), another might have to do with transportation (flight, submersibles?) or whatever the devs can conjur from their fertile imaginations.
Just a thought.
The engineer mainly focuses on charr tech right now. Asura tech offers skill possibilities that would allow the engineer to grow in power as the other classes undoubtably will in full campeigns of the future.
No Engineers are fine just how they are, well except that some kits should be weapons instead but that’s another story…
Perhaps you could suggest a NEW class that focuses more on future gadgets/tech instead of trying to split the Engi. What to call this new class hmmm? How about Inventor? :P
This thread has been moved to the engineer forums. It’s suited more for this section then the other.
If it would allow a way to implement maces to Engis, I am all for it!
Even if I get a more asura skins on my kits on my asura engi. That would be amazing
on Piken Square and Gandara.
Keep the engineer and make the commando, a tech based gun class.
nope they should do an asura engi event or something similar. i like the commando idea tho
The asuran society uses magitech. It doesn’t seem the engineer technology is something the asuran culture has ever explored. it’s not ancient technology to them, it’s a new tech that asuran engineers are looking into. the futrue ball story line shows a possibility of the PC discovering a way to incorporate steam tech into golem tech, thereby creating steamgolems and taking over the world.
This makes sense if the asura have always had magic as a source of power. they would have used what was available instead of needing to find a way to develope simple steam mechanisms into usefull tools that could compete with what they could do with magitech.
If you pay attention to ambient discussion, there are asura who are interested in adopting charr technology into their designs now.
I expect (and hope!) that as time goes on, we’ll see more asura and generally exotic stuff get incorporated into the engineer profession. However, i think it generally makes more sense to have one profession that has access to both, rather than having two separate professions with very similar mechanics and playstyles.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Honestly if you were going to split the engineer class, you would probably be best splitting it into an “engineer” and an “alchemist”.
No.
Who says Asura can’t use low-tech weaponry? From my perspective, Asuran Engineers are simply people who go old-school.
Remember that not all members of a race follow the same doctrines or theories. This is emphasized throughout in-game. One good example is an Asuran NPC in the zone below Lion’s Arch who specifically says he doesn’t want to be cooped up in a lab all day.
Lv80s: Guard, Thief, Necro. Renewed my Altaholic’s card on the HoT Hype-Train. Choo choo~
I can make such a ’thread with every other class too.

Clearly some asura (engineers) do use steam and clockwork but it’s by no means common in asura society. There is a dialogue between NPCs in Rata Sum somewhere who speculate wistfully about being able to work out charr technology as an alternate power source to magic.
It would be nice to have cultural turret skins (like cultural totem skins in another game) but that’s something for the future and/or the gem store.
Piken Square
this would interesting but i think it would mean charr engineers would be more asked for in almost every aspect of the game. while the asura may be more interested in forward thinking ideals, the charr are obviously walking war machines.
what weapon would the asura branch of the class use?
As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
Why not add a little Asuran and Charr technology in and fly it as a full amalgam of technology due to the Pact?
Skill name – Description; Tool Belt skill name – Description
Asuran:
Taser – Melee stun; Electrified – The next enemy that attacks you is dazed
Short Range Teleport – 900 range self teleport; Teleport! – Teleports the targetted enemy to you
Mini Golem – Summons a small mini golem, it can follow you around but all damage is melee based; Rocket Fist – You fire a glove at a target, dazing them
Charr:
Time Bomb – You attach a sticky time bomb to an enemy, 4 seconds later it explodes for AoE damage and burning (like the under water ability); Set To Blow – You can detonate an explosive on a targetted ally (turrets and golems count) for AoE damage and burning
Saw – A mechanical chainsaw springs forth from your sleeve, severely bleeding targetted foe; Spring-Loaded Blade – Your other sleeve had a simpler blade for going for the eyes, foe blind
Elixir Ch – Converts conditions on you into stacks of Might; Throw Elixir Ch – Targetted AoE, turns three conditions allies are suffering from into stacks of Might
