Hi everyone, Im wondering about the sigil of fire. Wiki says:
The flame blast has a 1.0 damage coefficient and a radius of 150.

I want to know where is this 1.0 dmg fit in this burning equation:
8 + (4 * Level) + (0.25 * Condition Damage) per second

Thanks

I only started using Sigil of Fire last night, but don’t remember anything about Burning.

It should follow a Direct Damage calculation.

It’s DD damage.

Somoene did a calculation of the DPS of each sigil on auto attack.

The top sigil were Sigil of Air and Sigil of Fire. The worse being Sigil of Fraility, but it’s a team debuff.

Yeah I’m still not seeing anything that justifies a 33% decrease in base damage on grenades or the adjustments to the other myriad kit abilities we have as engi’s. I used this on FT and it did do a small burst but it certainly didn’t instakill anything and it never did enough that I didn’t STILL have to go thru long drawn out fighting like 8-10 hits each despite every build I tried or the gear i had. It’s basically a non issue.

Ok one question is, why does ppl preffer sigil of fire instead of sigil of earth? I mean, if sigil of fire wont be affected by condition dmg, and it only has 30% after crit, vs the sigil of earth that has 60% after crit and can even stack bleed (even though bleed formula is less dmg than fire) as a condition dmg then… why is it better? (I consider saying “people prefers it” because I’ve seen it is far more expensive (sigil of fire around 2 gold) than sigil of earth (around 80-100ish silver). It’s direct dmg, and it has a 1.0 damage coefficient as wiki states, … also, how do I eat (calculate) this 1.0 dmg coeff? is there any other advantage about this sigil that I’m not aware of? Thanks a lot guys you are really kewl answering this many details

Well… I haven’t really delved into too many sigils on my Engineer, but on just comparing Fire vs Earth it seems to be pretty obvious where each would be used. Fire is an AE DD hit vs Earth a single target condition. I wouldn’t use Earth anywhere but a condition heavy (P/P) build, and as for Fire I’m currently using it in my FT build that I use mainly for Orr DEs. Both have their place I would think.

uhm good point… not to forget that, burn dmg > bleed dmg, yes now I see it clearly… now as for Aoe and talking about FT build… maybe sigil of strenght would be better, provided that you have “juggernaut” trait on, and accumulating might would be nice to increase the burning dmg. What do you think about this, specially talking, for Orr?

I only play WvW, so take this for what it’s worth, but I’ve found sigil of fire to be fantastic with a discharge build (mine is a little different from most discharge builds, but it’s mostly for personal preference). Discharges hit multiple targets (surprise shot is up every 7 seconds) and both wrench and rifle pierce. For me, the key is lining up my shots (target the furthest enemy reliably in range, then strafe around to line up more enemies between us—throwing out wrench whenever there are multiple targets and hitting surprise shot at every c/d). Every hit (not just the ones on your target) has a chance to proc. If you’re fighting a group, you’re going to see explosions everywhere.

Anyway, that’s my endorsement, for what it’s worth. If you’re running any build with piercing bullets (traited pistol or any rifle build) I highly recommend trying it out. But also keep in mind that you really need to pay attention to your targeting and positioning if you want to get the most out of piercing bullets and, therefore, the sigil.
