With the meta 6/0/0/4/4 cele engi build obviously you want to run doom sigil, but what do you pair with it? intelligence, battle, leeching, and energy all seem like good options and i cannot decide what would benefit me the most. do certain runes have really good synergy with other runes? like for example if you use battle always use hoelbrak runes, or if you run pack runes intelligence isn needed, or with vampirism always run leeching. pls halp
one combo that has awesome synergy is hydromancy + leeching.
hydromancy not only has a chill, but also a direct dmg tick, that triggers leeching right away.
so that is a melle 2k burst that ignores armor and 1k heal + 2sec chill (that scales with your condi-duration every 9 seconds.
This is what many cele warris run, but since our choices are limited, you should consider a more balanced approach.
Energy is always good, and goes well with all sigil choices.
As mentioned above, leeching + hydromance works great (if you make sure to use your poison nades on cd, to compensate for doom).
doom will make your life a lot easier against rangers and warris.
Geomancy is somewhat meh on cele gear, but can work as well, especially against thiefs, warris and guardians. But if you want to have ranged bleed support, go for earth (only single target, tho).
battle is not worth it, unless you go for hoelbrak runes, and even then strength tends to perform better since nades have 3 chances to crit with a single attack, so the 1sec cd is almost always used up instantly.
intelligence will definitively help your dmg output, especially when it procs while switching into rifle for the blunderbus / jumpshot combo (jumpshot are 2 hits in total)
Some balanced approach I like to run for cele rifle is intelligence, doom and vampire runes, for the extra life-leech and “oh kitten ” proc.
On condi-2kit grenth runes + leeching & hydromancy is really powerful.
HgH FT with heolbrak runes + battle & strength is insane might uptime & defense (always take elixir S+H and either R or C). HgH also works great with nades.
Basically you should either use sigils to compensate something you lack, or to specialize even further into something you’re already good in.
Intelligence is pretty much mandatory to make your burst deal good damage. Well timed bursts end fights. The damage you can put out with it sometimes is pretty ridiculous for a non-zerker build. Keep in mind that both leeching and doom can be dodged or bodyblocked, which will nullifle some or all of their effects. Geomancy and hydromancy can be dodged by good players, but are at least AoE (geomancy is pretty meh with cele and 0 in firearms though).
You actually would want to run leeching the least with vampirism runes. Both the random proc and the on heal proc can overwrite your weapon swap proc, or vice versa, as you can only have 1 leeching proc up at a time. There’s a lot of micromanagement involved in running both at once.
If you’re running Intelligence and Pack runes (or otherwise have significant fury uptime), you can run Fire or Air as your second sigil for extra unavoidable damage and higher burst, as well as a way to spot stealthed enemies.
Battle is pretty bad since the nerfs. It got hit really hard, and I don’t think it’s worth running now even with strength or hoelbrak runes. You’re only looking at between 120 and 180 power/condi damage (more often 120 unless you’re running strength runes) with a rampup time. And you have to sacrifice either pack or vampirism runes just to get it that high.
Sustained damage battle is still better, for more burst (assuming you know which skills are the high dps ones), take intelligence.
For sustain (and a lot thereoff) take leaching.

battle + leeching is my go to for cele. super solid set. intelligence is great, but I don’t like how it forces you to regulate kit swaps, i prefer to be swapping kits almost constantly. it’s not that it has no merit (i use intel on both weapons on my warrior, and in wvw also), i just feel it messes with my build’s rhythm.
Depends on how offensively you wish to fight but I prefer to go with Energy + Cleansing. Energy so I can grab Protection Injection which allows me to absorb far more hits, really effective versus Hammer Warriors for example and in outnumbered situations. Cleansing because we lack a bit in condition removal where Cleansing comes in really handy (can cleanse a fear for example!)
For PvP I would replace Cleansing with Intelligence.
