Silly question about static discharge...
It’s travel distance matches the range of the toolbelt item it generates from, with the exception of a few items that are a bit buggy.
For instance, exploding a turret sends it out in a straight line, throwing a potion can activate it slightly behind the point of impact, some heals will generate it in melee range, etc.
I’m pretty sure that the range is always 1200

Nope, it’s as ayden said, same range as the respective toolbelt skill.
Well, it’s not exactly true. Like for instance with Rocket Kick, the static discharge of that item will travel beyond the distance of the melee ranged kick, but doesn’t go 1200, so I’m not exactly sure.
I guess the better answer to the question is, it tends to act differently for different toolbelt items.
Further playtesting has me even more confused about exactly how this skill works.
If I have an enemy targeted, and use say, a heal or Incendiary Ammo, it sparks right in front of the ground just ahead of me.
But if I have my rifle auto-attack on, it flies out at range and hits just like it would for other ranged toolbelt skills.
Further testing also shows the range is 1200 for everything, but it doesn’t always work… like with Rocket Kick, sometimes it flies out 1200 distance (I’m assuming, it’s pretty far) but other times it fizzles out at my feet if I don’t hit with the actual Rocket Kick.
^ Yeah its really wierd the way it works.
Seems like every skill works differently.
For the most part if the TB skill is able to target an enemy the when you use it the bolt will travel at the enemy that you have targetted.
If you don’t have an enemy targetted it will fly in the direction of your camera.
So look at the sky without a target and use Throw Wrench and the bolt will fly up at the clouds.
It seems to suffer from the same mechanics as flame blast from FT, so if your camera is above looking down at your character it will shoot the bolt down.
When it seems like the bolt just fizzles it is because it became obstructed just like FT#2, it doesn’t actually say obstructed because the bolt is a generated effect.
