Silverwastes help please?
I use my general world exploration/combat build in the Silverwastes. It’s by no means optimized or the most efficient way of doing the caravan missions, but if you’re failing to complete them altogether it might be a place to start.
I go 6/0/4/4 with Rifle, Grenades, Tool Kit and Elixir S and Berserker’s gear. I start unleashing as many conditions and as much DPS as I can, kite with grenade 1+2 followed by healing turret+activate+pick up when I’m low on HP. Then I use one or more of my survivability options while my healing turret recharges and my high damage skills go off cool-down. Part of the trick is to run in circles and throw grenades directly underneath yourself to hit wolves and the like while avoiding their damage. Avoid being hit by the charging enemies at all costs.
Hope this helps in some way
What exactly is killing you? Pretty much anything except turrets will do fine in Silverwastes, but grenades will definitely kill the fastest. If the Mordrem cast grasping vines on you, just stand above the target and you won’t get hit. Otherwise keep moving and avoid any charged attacks. If you do happen to get knocked down, use a stun breaker to get our of harms way, but don’t use it while the teragriff is still charging (has a large AOE zone). If finger dancing with grenades is a kittenallenging, you can always go with elixir infused bombs and just run in a circle. The AI is not that smart and will just soak up the damage until it’s dead.
My general purpose build: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQFAUlUUpErtbx+KseRSaBFqpCqXIysslP3gA8UA-T1BBABAcBBEc/BzU+loOCHVCSq6PB8gACAgAczbGYzbmhO0hO0hO0uuNH6NH6NDA-w
generally when someone says they have survivability issues on engi and i watch them play a little, the issue turns out to be using healing turret correctly. are you using it correctly? here is what to do:
- spam the kitten out of your heal key minimum twice and make sure you get the overcharge on the 1st tick.
- never leave your turret out ever. always either pick up or explode immediately. get used to doing so.
both points are equally important, because if you dont do both your healing sucks. and if you arent using healing turret, well aed should be ok in pve… but youre more likely using healing turret because everyone says its good and aed isnt.
sw pack bulls should not present an issue for a 66002 build using rifle + grenades + healing turret + anything, in any gear rare or better.

I run SW on my Engie using 66002 as well. No issues for having the standard rifle, healing turret, supply crate, and triple kits (grenades/tool/elixir). Only thing dangerous are the Charging Terragriffs, and for those: Net Shot, Freeze Grenades, Overcharged Shot, and Supply Crate (if it’s a veteran event). Elixir Gun toolbelt to stun break out of it.
Tool kit’s Gear Shield alone is invaluable. Flamethrower is mediocre there and Bombs will get you killed often since you’ll in up close to things that can hit hard. Setup bursts with Flash Grenades on mobs, rifle 3 & 5, then Acid Bomb out of there and go back to tossing Grenades.
If you need extra help against Charging Terragriffs, play smarter – not harder, and buy Frost Guns. They’re cheap and can permanently lock down charging terragriffs by instantly applying up to 40secs of chill with a couple of uses.

If people ask what kit you’re using, just tell them, “It’s with the new specialization.” :P
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
I personaly use my lazy open pve build there. Never die. Dps isnt high but in zerg it doesnt matter that much

Thank you all for the helpful advice.
I’ve tried a few different ideas here, and what I’m realizing is that my troubles seem to boil down to my inability to properly use grenades and the healing turret.
For grenades, I can’t seem to keep moving, throwing, and aiming all at the same time. I switched on instant targeting, which helps, but then I find myself missing targets quite a bit (especially if they’re moving), and also having a hard time pressing my movement keys while simultaneously mashing my “1” key to keep lobbing.
For the healing turret, I find myself repeatedly mashing my “heal” key trying to drop it and spray out the extra heal on the first tick. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don’t… but about half the time my turret gets destroyed (particularly if I miss the extra tick) and I have the same problem of not moving while button mashing my action key as I do with grenades.
I’m starting to wonder if my keyboard/mouse setup is simply inadequate for the task at hand. My fingers don’t like playing “Twister.”
Better keybindings may help if you feel like you’re playing ‘twister’—it’s sort of just an innate “problem” with the class (one I personally love, even though I’m in the learning stages myself right now). I have utilities on QER, heal on T, elite on G, toolbelt on ZXCV. Just rebind strafe to A and D and do all your turning+movement with the mouse. Just hold down LB and RB to move so your left hand is free to play Chase the Cooldowns. I admit this setup works well for me because I have a Naga mouse, but I don’t see why it also couldn’t without. Find what works best for you, though.
Grenades are all about timing, which is just something you have to learn with practice. Further you are from the target, further in front of it’s path you have to target the grenades to account for travel time. I do find I miss a lot, but mostly just because mob’s aggro is totally bonkers in the SWs.
As for surviving, you just need to position better and have good situational awareness, and learn the tells on different mobs for when they charge, when they life leach, etc. On those pack bull events, just toss a freeze grenade, then blind when it wears off, and kite around in circles to avoid getting hit. (Elixir Gun 2 is actually pretty good for those annoying charging teragriffs, too.) I also always run Rocket Boots, partly for mobility but also to break immob and cripple.
You’ll figure it all out, it just takes practice. I actually 100% enjoy running around SWs on my engineer more than ranger because of how versatile it is dealing with the variety of annoying mobs there—its a strong class for it, it just has a slightly higher learning curve. That’s just engi in general, though.
I personaly can imagine playing engi without my naga.

(assuming thats a typo…) me neither, i used to have a 5 button mouse and i couldnt play 2 kit builds properly. so many buttons are absolutely necessary. ive known clicker guardians who can even pvp at a high level, but never an engi.

An easier build for PVE roaming is an HGH rifle. Put that on and you’ll have a lot more health and condi removals to play with. I don’t personally like ’nades, I take bombs any day But personal choice on that one, most run nades I think.
That trait setup makes you more of a glass cannon type of engineer so it’s natural you might die easily. What I do to get around that is I use Tool Kit for the extra shield and crowbar for the confusion against Mordrem, Grenades to deal substantial condition damage at a safe distance while only using my P/S skills as finishers and if when I have no endurance left, I use Elixir S. Oh and as for armor, I go for Celestial stats.
To make things easier though, you might need to make the ground targeting set to Fast with Range Indicator or Instant to make you throw your nades and supply kits faster.
