Sinister Stats. The new condi-meta for engi?
So just Carrion/Rabid but no Vitality or Toughness?
That’s … actually less defensive than Berserker or Rampager, how is one supposed to survive on that setup? The Power/Precision secondary stat doesn’t really increase pressure that much compared to how much faster you will die.

High risk, high reward.
Surprisingly, some of us like this concept

Well, judging by how many people like Rampagers, I would tend to disagree.

Dungeon solo meta wasn’t rampager it was rabid. So yes, this new stat combo is obviously superior to rabid.
The rune choice was not hoelbrak/strength either. It was aristocracy.
A bit fuzzy on the details about sigils but I think it was corruption and bursting.
If napalm specialist isn’t bugged then 66020 is meta. Otherwise 64040 with blood injection.
@Chaith: This is PvEsports. We play by different rules!

id love to try it out but carrying around another set of gear is entirely unappealing
that said… i think strength runes would be the go to set. its hybrid damage. nothing can possibly outscale large amounts of might for hybrids, except maybe huge amounts of confusion (but perplexity is such single target and so hard to use through defiance). i dont think youll get much mileage out of balth runes in pve because burning is easy to maintain on mobs without clears, all you need is duration food and some explosives and 2 skills and that should be nearly perma burn without sacrificing your runes to trivialize it.
ill try it before i poo-poo it like rampager… i think it might suffer the same conceptual drawbacks of wet noodle crits with no survivability, but at least with main condi stat the condis you kitten out wont still be basically ignorable.
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
I’m starting to feel like Sinister will work really well with condi duration, sigil of strength, sigil of battle (if not doom on rifle or torment on pistol) and runes of the flame legion or strength runes. Hella no survivability, but the longer you are in battle, the more each hit will hurt if we’re running grenades. Combined with the tons of vuln and some might stacking between cc’s and on crit-procs, the damage curve definitely tilts up for us the longer a fight goes on.
But I feel like this is a partner/gank stat for us. If it’s ever put in sPvP, it might really be good with stealthy engineers that come to a team fight late and get to freecast. I would love to partner with a guardian or an ele that could keep the aegis and heals coming though.
Why Power? Why not something like:
- Condi Damage/Precision
- Condi Damage Precision/Condi Duration
Power seems kinda useless in this without much crit damage. I mean, maybe you could run 6 into a crit damage line to get it to a semi-respectable level, but I just don’t see this as that much more damage. It seems like a yolo-celestial style build with a condi focus. Might try it if it ever makes it into PvP.
Message me any time in game.
I think the intent of this set is to be a set for all the people who want to use crit-proc conditions, so the crit damage isn’t really a big deal – it’s not about landing big crits, it’s about landing many of them, with lots of Condition Power to give them bite and Power to fill in the gaps of a hybrid condi/power build.
…of course, this niche has already been filled, if I remember correctly, and at this point the new gears are pretty much ‘so let’s just throw these stats out and see how they work.’
Most people will always take the other options. Not everyone likes to die.

I always tried to use carrion instead of rabid because I don’t like the idea of wasting direct damage in favor of using criticals just to proc some extra bleedings. Rampager I don’t like because it focus mainly in precision, so in terms of condition builds, it isn’t optimal. With power you increase both normal damage and critical damage. Adding the critical chance in the same set, people will be able to proc critical bleendings, add direct damage and also great condition damage.
Of course, you’ll be a full glass canon, since you won’t have toughness neither vitality. But for guys looking for a condition glass canon, this looks like a berseker glass canon for direct damage.
