Skill "delay"
i think its the cast times i get it sometimes too wich is why i double tap skills .
The game is animation based rather than timer based. This in that each skill has a related windup and cooldown animation that can rarely be interrupted once started.
You can see this with blocks, where the actual skill only comes into effect once the windup animation (perhaps as long as .5 second) has completed. Making any attempt at blocking a non-telegraphed attack by the enemy more a game of chance than anything else.
It does not help that the tooltip attack time is at best a rough estimate, down to the closest .25 second, and include both windup and cooldown. Meaning that the actual skill effect may not trigger until .5 into the time given on the tooltip, rather than instantly, unless there is no attack time given at all (and those can be inserted anywhere as they have no animation to speak off).
I am not surprised that some have reported quite the success with playing the game with HUD hidden, as the numbers and animations presented there may well be more a distraction than a benefit.
Foo on ANet for going overboard with their “watch the game, not the UI” mantra…
Toolbelt skills currently have a bug with skill queueing, meaning that if you press a toolbelt skill a microsecond before your previous skill finished casting, it won’t go. Med kit also has an unintended mechanic of canceling skill 1 if you press any other skills before it’s finished casting. I’ve never experienced any other issues, though.
Tank you guys for your answers. You helped me a lot there.
Guess I´ll just have to… slow down a bit ó.ò
This has happened to me all the time in wvw. I would switch to my medkit to heal conditions and would switch back to my rifle but instead of doing damage. Im spamming medkits and running around like a fool. I also noticed when I use throw wrench there is a longer delay until you can throw grenade barrage. So you do need to slow down a little or press the key twice. I tend to look at my skillbars more now which can be bad thing to do in a fight.

Thanks, that explains some of the problems.
Still needed is why switching to a kit, firing a skill, then switching to another kit often doesn’t work – the skill fails to fire or the second kit swap doesn’t occur.
Do you have to wait for the skill animation to finish before swapping to another kit?

I’ve had that happen to me as well and just chalked it up to an outdated CPU. If it’s happening to other people, though, maybe it’s actually a bug.
You do have to wait for a skill to completely cast before swapping kits, or the skill will fail. I’m not sure what would cause a swap to fail.
