Slick Shoes / Super Speed – Why no Swiftness?
You haven’t used this skill while crippled yet, have you?

I guess not
Thanks for the reply, I still don’t think the belt/skill is worth it on my build, with the AoE field being so small.
Indeed it’s situational. Running into a zerg with slick shoes on the other hand is good for a laugh or two.

You don’t want it to be swiftness to be honest!
The “Double Speed” Buff on the tool belt skill is double speed regardless of combat, slows etc.
It means even in combat you run faster than swiftness and (shhhh don’t tell anyone) you can carry the orb faster in Spirit Watch.
Great pointers.. now I think I might have to re-add it to my skill rotations
Is it a boon that people can remove from you? Just curious.
Don’t think so it has it’s own unique icon that I’ve not seen used on anything else, don’t even think its a boon?
Slick shoes CD can also reduced with trait III in the tools trait line to 48 secs, which also reduces the CD of the tool belt skill a little.
Its not half bad to be honest, If they made it a stun breaker I’d use it all the time, imagine it, breaks stun , blinds and makes your attacker fall over… mint!

nope.
It’s super situational. It needs passive sigil effects to be worth it. Something like reduced cripple and chill duration.

IIRC, the blind only works underwater. On land, you knock people down, but you can’t knockdown in water, so instead you blind people.
I’ve been giving this skill a lot of consideration for WvW use, perhaps coupled with the bomb and tool kits. Still haven’t been able to get away from elixirs since the first beta though…
You can perma stun a group of 2-3 player for 4 second each with the activate. It’s really strong. Do this will dropping bomb/Grenade.
Super speed is a life saver. When WvW and roaming, I often take it over Elixir S. Sure I lose my stun breaker, but I can outrun any zerg that chase me, well most zerg.

The Super Speed was designed for in-combat purposes, when using it while attacked it will give you speed, comparable to someone out of combat with swiftness. It tends to be more valuable than it is.
What’s really fun is a speed build with slick shoes, leg mods, and power shoes.

Here’s a build with slick shoes that I was testing out. Needs a bit of work probably. Uses grenades over bombs to stay at range, except, of course, when diving into a zerg.

Speed bonuses do not stack.
Power Shoes will overwrite the trash Leg Mods, Swiftness and Super Speed will overwrite Power Shoes.

nope.
So I have no idea why anyone would want to make it a swiftness boon.

2 reasons: Invigorating Speed and stacking.
As it is, it doesn’t proc invigorating speed, and effectively wastes time on swiftness if you have it since it’s ignored for the duration, but still running.
Both of these would be solved if it additionally gave swiftness for 5s alongside the super speed buff, then it would cancel out swiftness time wasted and would proc IS.
^ The information said above completely counters your argument.
It gives swiftness speed out of combat while youre still in combat. To me, thats more than enough.

BTW, Power Shoes does seem to stack with Leg Mods.

Swiftness can be maintained permanently with 10 in Tools, using the very kits Leg Mods runs off of, which makes it completely worthless, and can easily maintain swiftness in combat anyway, which also makes Power Shoes pretty worthless.
In short, Leg Mods is terribad, Power Shoes is for non-kit builds, Speedy Kits is great.
It’s just an experimental build for testing. There’s no point in arguing over which is better or full of worth. There is value in experimentation. I have never really looked at Leg Mods and had to try it out.
The skills have differences that may affect situational play.
- Speedy Kits provides a swiftness boon for 5 seconds with a 5 second cooldown.
- Leg Mods provides a non-boon speed buff (can’t be boon stripped) when carrying a device kit (bombs, grenades, medkit).
- Power Shoes provides a non-boon speed buff when in combat.
To highlight how these differences affect situational play, here’s a hypothetical example. Let’s say you switch to a kit for 5 seconds of swiftness. Two seconds in, you get boon-stripped. It’ll be another 3 seconds before you can move fast again. Or maybe after 3 seconds you need to switch to medkit for antidote or heal. You only have 2 seconds to do whatever healing you need before you have to switch out of medkit if you want to gain swiftness again. I bet if you took both Speedy Kits and Power Shoes, Power Shoes will have you covered in battle during those hiccups with Speedy Kits.
Speedy Kits is of great utility for getting around the map in WvW that Leg Mods and Power Shoes can’t provide.
