Sniper kit

So… What you want is the Warrior rifle on Engineer?
A sniper rifle makes no sense in GW2, because a sniper rifle isn’t just long ranged. It’s super super super long ranged. You’d expect a sniper rifle to have ranges upwards of 5000.
If anything, make Sniper Rifle an elite kit that lasts for 1 minute (like Mortar), but has ridiculous trebuchet-like ranges, upwards of 5000 range or more. That would be fun.
So… What you want is the Warrior rifle on Engineer?
They won’t add a shotgun to swap our rifle skills too so this is the only other option.
Sniper rifles are cool.
But Sniper Rifles do not fit in this game. There are sniper rifles somewhere in the Charr starting zone, but they need to be manned and are stationary. If you add a sniper kit for the engineer, the damage must be weak as hell from a 1000 range under if you want a shot that deals 2k damage per shot.
And you want a cripple attack at 1500 range… You want the warriors adrenaline shot, tweaked to become a definite kill shot when the enemy is below 25%.
I’m sorry, I absolutely LOVE sniper rifles, pretty much the only weapon I stick to in ANY other game. But I don’t think snipers are fit to be in Guild Wars 2. Even the stationary sniper rifle is INSANE, and if that was ever something else than stationary I would label it OP. The Ranger is supposed to be the ranged expert in the game, can’t take that from them by trolling them when you put a bullet in their head from 1500 range. Besides I think a shotgun rifle fits the engineer concept. A sniper rifle is for a trained soldier, while the medium armor wielding classes are labeled as adventurers, makes more sense for the adventurers to pick a multi-round shotgun than a one-shot sniper rifle. Well, maybe the thief could get a rifle and make that one into a sniper? shrug
I could actually see this if they had it require a cast time to set up a tripod and root you to the spot – like the other sniper rifles already in the game.
Even then though the theme isn’t very engineer-ish. Thief would make more sense as they’re more akin to assassins.

Shotgun rifle does fit engineer perfectly. I definitely do not want them changing the engineer rifle.
If they want to add an extra elite long range kit (or modify mortar so that it does that job better) that is fine with me though.
So basically, you took:
Hip Shot
Crippling Shot
Body Shot
Volley
Point Blank Shot
And mushed them together on an unimaginative Weapon Set. If you look our Rifle, Pistols, and Shield skills, they’re far from conventional. In fact, our Rifle/Pistol/Shield/Harpoon Gun skills are the most imaginative Weapon Sets in the game (Just in Flavor), with the only comparison in uniqueness would be the Mesmer Greatsword.
I’ve said it twice, and I’m going to keep repeating this:
Make Blunderbuss a long range ability called, “Rocket Shot” that does the same damage and effects as Blunderbuss but as a Target-Based AoE. By doing this, you’ve solidified Rifle as our long range weapon of choice, while the only close range attack would be Jump Shot.
So basically you ppl hate him, for wanting to have an option to play his class in a aspect he would love.
Without caring that it wont even really efect the game. Its more of a plus content. Or so to say an OPTION to the players that want to costumize there combat a bit.
And you would take the OPTION from him, only becosue you dont like it….thats EXAkittenhe reson mmos didnt evolve.

On the other hand, if not a sniper rifle kit, but a normal rifle kit would be totally needed. A lot of palyers dont like the shotgun like Rifle. And dont have an option to use it “normally”. Its mostly the reson i rerolled from this awesome class.
okay lets make this the current rifle for engineer hip shot will change from range 1000 to 600 with a cone attack radius much like guardian staff skill 1 attack, then make a sinper kit for engineers NOW everyone should be happy you have shotgun and sinper kit oh wait why not turn elixir gun into a sinper kit long range poison dart that make sense

There are 5+ threads on the matter and more due to come because it’s a popular issue with engineers, we’re simply wanting a void filled that is a long range option. Im guessing a lot of people who aimed to play engi when the first tidbits of info for the class were revield(including using a rifle) were dissapointed that they could not play a long ranged turret/stationary build popular in many mmo’s.
I’m sure some will say, “Anet is doing right by starting new trends” but the fact of the matter is, you still have your typical classes demonstrated in most mmo’s(warrior, paladin, assassin, ranger, sorcerer etc..). The difference here is that they give every class different ranged options and healing.

First off, can you give me one example of an MMO with a Long-range turret Engineer other than Warhammer Online?
Secondly, we have always been a medium range profession. Starting out, Grenades didn’t have their incredibly long range on them. Grenades were given their 1200 range after realizing that every class needs some form of 1200 range damage and that’s the reason Guardian Scepter was also upgraded to a base of 1200 range.
We will always be a medium ranged profession. Plus, it follows a pattern with Ranger and Thief; the other two medium-armor professions. Thieves have a lot of melee weapon sets, while ranger has more of ranged weapon sets. We fall in the middle of them. With 2 short range weapons (Bomb Kit/Tool kit), 6 Medium Range weapons (Flamethrower/Elixir Gun/Rifle/Pistol/Shield/Harpoon Gun), and 1 long range weapon (Grenade Kit); we were made to stay in medium range.
Asking for a Sniper weapon set doesn’t fit our theme as we’re a lot more Gadgety than a straight DPS weapon. Look at every single one of our equipable weapon sets and you’ll see a theme that we have a lot of “Technology” behind our skills. Shooting a bullet that explodes on impact, firing three mines out of our Harpoon gun, or electrifying our shields is all very techno-themed.
Its actually a teir 1 trait to make our rifle 1200 range. Which is further than every ranger weapon except long bow “everything else is mellee to mid range on ranger…people often forget that” Necromancer has nothing reliable beyond 900 range…Staff auto attack goes pretty far but thats it.
Also “sniper weapon set doesnt fit our theme as we’re a lot more gadgety than a straight DPS weapon”. i dont get this comment, how would a long range rifle require less technology than a wrench? or a normal rifle? or a pistol? Why are you assuming that they would not give it “gadgety” abilitys like the harpoon gun (also a weapon that isnt themed anymore gadgety…nor are we the only ones who can use it). Its possible the sniper rifle will have a skill to lay some kind of mine…or put a force shield around the player..or fire a bullet that tags the player to later be hit by a rocket.
Sorry i’m just not following you Aristio i’m sure you have a point your trying to make but i’m not seeing it as you dont have very good examples.
No. Stop asking for a sniper kit please, its a bad idea.
Why?
Where would it go? Utilities? Well that would mean we get a new utility, which would mean that we have more utilities than everyone else so with Arenanet its either: 7 more new utilities so no one whines, or people whine. Not a good choice.
Replace a utility? Again, whining will come of it. This isn’t a case like the mine kit turning into a single mine, nothing is at all similar to a ‘sniper kit’, so something completely unrelated would be chopped. Don’t like that idea.
Elite? Could see it replacing elixir X, but honestly, its much easier making elixir X useful, than replacing it.
So honestly, all the options are not good. Your best bet is to improve the ranged capabilities that we have, rather than creating a new one out of nowhere.
I honestly believe that traits need to be consolidated. Firearms is a mess.
I think that the following traits need to mix together:
Hair Trigger, Rifled Barrels.
Make it so that it is:
Pistol and Rifle recharge 20% faster, and have a longer range.
This would make longer range more accessible to the engineer, since right now, its not very high on the list of thing you pick out from firearms.
These ‘double effect’ traits are very common in non engineer classes. Take a look at musketeer for the warrior. It is a superior version of ‘coated bullets’ in every possible way.
That would leave a new space for a trait, but that is much easier than implementing a whole new kit.
