So Engineers can't use Hammers yet...
Because then every other class would want a new weapon.
I agree that only being able to use pistols, rifle or shield makes you feel kind of limited. But just equip some toolkits and you’ll be happy again.

The problem is that engineers have NO melee (Tool kit isnt a fighting kit, it’s for utility)
Engineer is the only profession without some form of melee, and they’re already EXTREMELY limited in what they can build.
“The problem is that engineers have NO melee”
Is every profession supposed to have melee? I don’t ask this to be a jerk, but wonder why you think this makes your argument a valid one? If you want melee, chose a profession with melee. Problem solved.

The entire point of this game was that every profession was relatively self sufficient, and can do a myriad of things, in this case, every profession can do everything, except Engineer with melee.
Tell me how that’s fair, exactly?
Not to mention, it’s such a perfect fit. There’s only 2 professions using hammer, as opposed to 4 using greatswords, so on so forth, and it would add more diversity to who’s buying the weapons, as well as provide new builds for Engineer, which they’re trying to do now.
That’s my argument.
The statement about toolkit was a farce. Tool kit and power wrench equals perma cripple. And thwack to the face is something no one likes to feel. Many an GS warrior has eaten my wrench.

Look at the abilities however. They’re not meant for dealing raw damage, theyre meant for non-damage-dealing things aside from the box of nails applying bleed. Compare the Tool Kit’s damage potential to like, the flamethrower or the bomb kit and it’s laughable.
A-net is working on getting all weapons for all classes. One specific weapon for one specific class probably isn’t real high on the priority list until they have the kinks worked out of other weapons for other classes as well.

Could you give a source to this? I’d really love to see it.
If you want to melee as an engine equip bomb kit and took kit , they synergies very well. If you don’t think engine can melee then that’s cuz u don’t think outside of the cookie cutter builds.

“Okay… I’ve gotten all that off my chest. Now let’s talk about the specifics Colin and I chatted about during our call”.//// “What’s more is that the team is also working very kitten finding a way to make it so that every profession has access to every weapon”
Only 2 professions use them, and for a “Fantasy Mechanic” role a giant hammer fits perfectly. Why has this not been implimented yet?
In your mind perhaps. But in my mind in no way does anything about the engineer suggest a hammer fits the them. We are not Ajax, that is more in them with guardians or warrior. It is not implemented yet because few felt it was thematic. We are not blacksmiths ferriering horse shoes or Ajax fighting along side Achilles.
Your assuming your thematic mentality of what an engineer should be is everyone else’s as well and that is simply not true. As I see it hammer doesn’t suit us at all. We are not “Grrrr Hulk Smash” type thugs swinging a ground pound hammer. We are combat engineers. More akin to a Sapper. Meaning we are constructors, designers, and explosives experts, not railroad workers swinging hammers.

Dunno about PVP, but in PVE bombs make for one serious melee weapon (it is after all a full AOE).
While not everyone wants to be able to use hammers and while it wouldn’t fit the theme of everybody’s engineer, many do and have been asking for it. The author of the interview made sure to try to let us know that our patience will pay off because all those arch types we’ve had in mind for our own characters, will be possible.
“What’s more is that the team is also working very kitten finding a way to make it so that every profession has access to every weapon and their own weapon skills for those previously locked weapons. Engineer plus Hammer? Check. Again, there’s no specific timeline for this, but a new progression system is coming. Finally those level 80s you’ve been hoarding will get some use, as they’ll be adding more and more skills and traits to the game for years to come and on a regular basis for players to obtain.”

I use “Magic mirror” on your argument. Google “Fantasy Mechanics” and give me the number of wrenches you see, then the number of OVERSIZED wrenches.
I don’t intend to argue in favor or not, but as a consensus, you gotta admit it it more or less fits the given stereotype. Like it or not.
Although I might add I think maces fit more than 2-handed hammers. Come on, Fixer upper skin ? You could even make it main- and off-hand, if you tinker just a bit you see what I mean.
How is a “mechanic” or “wrench” of any kind relevant to this at all ?? We are referring to engineers not mechanics. We are discussing hammer, not wrenches. You completely lost me on this one bud.

“No melee”. As stated in posts above we have the toolkit which allows melee. I would also advice trying out the bomb kit. To use it you must be in very close range and it feel (for me) almost like melee.
Greetings V
Hammer imo is the only two hander that would fit the engineer at all. It would bring about completely diff playstyles that could make gadgets really really useful for juggling people around. I just can’t see maces being so good we have toolkit pretty much a mace I don’t want a second mace.
Don’t care much for two-handers as they limit weapon skill combinations.
One-handers could combo with existing pistol and shield, as themselves, in various ways.

TK with auto attack, Prybar supported with Rifle, SD and EG4 is easily on par with our other higher DPS builds.
That being said I’d still like to see hammer. To DPS with Rifle you need to treat it as a melee weapon though.

Yep. Blunderbuss and Jump Shot pack a wallop.

The main issue I have with that is one of aesthetics. GW2’s endgame is so dedicated to visual progression that having to rely on weapons that can never be visually upgraded is rather problematic.
A flamethrower kit will always look like a the same kit you got in the first starter zone even after you have been 80 for a year and others are looking at legendaries.
Would Engineers be able to utilize hammers properly though? The other two leather classes have mechanics that allow them to engage in melee via avoidance and redirection (stealth and pets). The Engineer’s turrets, which can draw agro really well, aren’t sustainable enough as a core mechanic to serve such a function. At the very least, the thumper turret needs to be much more durable, and given a very short cooldown.
I’m starting to think it may be better for this game is turrets were disposable, but easily replaceable. Right now they are tuned for sieges, not run and gun boss fights.
What if they were pretty much thrown into existence, much like how a empty elixir bottle is disposed off?
One second they would be facing a lone engineer, the next there would be multiple turrets sprouting.
Make them disposable like mesmer phantasms rather than something we need to baby. Then it would we a option for both offensive and defensive fights, without having to set up a permanent camp in the latter case.
