Hi there, i main an engineer and have recently been playing with my 5 man guild group, often we pick off small zergs 10-12 guys is reasonable for us or we just run round have small fights with groups similar size to ours. And of course i want to be as effective as possible, so i would love a build that could cleave with ranged damage but still be effective 1v1 and 1v2’s, if anyone has any ideas i would love to know them, thanks alot in advance :)

That depends largely on your team comp.

I do exactly the same thing and I usually run a power/crit SD burst build focus ting on mobility over survivability. I’m able to take out priority targets in team fights and tip the scale of the encounter. There may be better builds but I have predator so I like SD LOL.

We also run with a RL friend that plays necromancer, when doing this I like to run a condition build (perplexity) and our THF switches to torment venom share this allows us to obliterate teams with epidemic but it requires coordinated play.

I’ve been using a HGH rifle build with nades and my traits are 0/25/15/30/0 yea I know I don’t have nades traited but there is a method to my madness, I take a mixture of soldiers and celestial gear, so without the points into fire arms I don’t have a good crit chance, luckily I have a good up time on fury, I also use the power food and the presicion crit damage food, after stacks I’m sitting on 2400 power, with fury 55% crit chance, 1600 toughness, 2000 vitality and 50% crit damage, even without points into grenades I’m still hitting around 6-8 with grenade barrage and the same with jump shot assuming you are at 25 might which is easy with this build, this with a guardian is a devastating combo, team stack might and use toss elixir s for stealth, this gives the guardian a great opportunity to use binding blade to great effect and the moment he pulls you can do heavy burst on multiple people this normally ends with 5 downed people if you get the timing right which is pritty easy, the other advantage to this build is the survivability that comes from using a hgh build, this build will also work very well in 1v1 and 1vx situations.

I run a 5 man team everyday.
the key issue here is what is your team composition, what kind of builds they use and whats your groups playstyle.
diving into zergs fully buffed requires a totally different setup than condition kiting with epidemic for example.

I do both and some other mixed set ups, and I have two main completely different builds depending.

If we are doing epidemic bombs or if we are just playing with 3-4 guys I just use my hgh build, magnet pull at 1200 range, fill target with conditions, epidemic.

If however we are going more power based, which generally works better than condies for 10+ enemies, I normally don’t need to worry about might stacks, swiftness or condition cleansing, so I go celestial+berserker 30/10/30/0/0. grenades, bombs and the 3rd slot is either slick shoes (not only adds a stunbreak but it also works great with necro wells, aoe knockdown inside a well bomb is good stuff) , rocket boots or toolkit. healing turret is great, especially if you have a warrior in your group to blast that field on regroups/rebuffs. I’ll have perma 25 might, protection, stability, retal, vigor so my damage goes insanely high, without really sacrificing defense, I actually have more toughness with this than with my hgh build. (Im nowhere near as slippery tho, and alot more dependant on others)

this build is especially horrible for 1v1s and barely works at all without support, so I never use it unless I have 2 guardians with me. it is devastating tho, binding blades pull into wells and grenade barrage droping in, and alot of pressure on downed stuff. retal will still hit you hard ofc, need to watch out for that.

sadly, I rarely get to play that, my guild is pretty small (and I intend to keep it that way) so I’m likely needed on guardian, warrior or something else when we have a full 5 man group;

as much as it hurts me to say it, there’s almost always a better option in a 5 man team when your enemies are more than 10, power (or even condi) necros have alot better aoe pressure/burst, having 2 guardians is almost vital, a stun warrior has too much value, which leaves one slot open, usually mesmer, ele or a second warrior. the best thing an engie brings is the water field and some downed pressure.
