In the first HoT cinematics we get to see this awsome Norn Scrapper swinging his hammer at some mordrem. There was alot of fiery stuff going on, now it’s not. I love the idea but something about the skills feels very rushed, dont you think?

Considering the design of the core elite mechanic, the behavior of gyros and this “fuel” which is in reality just a kidding cool down + the datamined hammer skills a long time ago :

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Guardian-and-Engineer-leaks

It seems that there was a “heat” or “fuel” generation via hammer skills which would not be surprising considering the first trailer of HoT you are talking about.
So yes, a lot of design iteration IMO which with bad project management lead to an unfinished and weirdly designed elite spec (not to say something else…)

Well… imo they just scrapped (HA!) the old spec and used some trash laying arround to quickly tinker the engi spec together cause they had to…not cause they wanted to. I feel no love or dedication and thought to the spec at all.. like for example the reaper and chrono got. Im actually certain it was called forge or forger or forgeman or something like that sometime in the creation…where it was still themed arround fire and heat and had a fuel generation system that (imo) probably worked sorta like adrenaline. Builds up with hammer attacks and then fuels the drones that most likely where upkeep skills like the herald got with his aspects.

They most likely where struggling to get the druid done and ready and left the engi spec on their workbench till it was really late in development and then just quickly put something together and called it a day…alone the “mechanic” is enough evidence that it most likely was that way. Busy with druid…the motto of the scrapper.

Whether or not they ditched parts of Scrapper during development is completely debatable, but there is absolutely no way that Hammer was in any way related to a “fuel” system for Gyros. Because if it were, then hammer would be literally required to use Gyros at all. Requiring you to use the one single elite spec weapon to actually use the utility skills wouldn’t fit with any design decision they’ve ever shown with any other elite spec. Different aspects of elite specs are meant to be options, not forced to be used together exclusively.

Even if the gyros were meant to be the profession mechanic instead of utilities at some point, it still wouldn’t work, because while at least it would be forcing Gyro utilities + hammer, it would still be forcing all Scrappers to use hammer.

I do feel that they left something out from the original designs. Maybe even that “blasting cap” idea from the datamine (though it should be noted that those things were from literally years ago). Would definitely explain the fire trails if the hammer was originally meant to be explosive. My main reason for that is not simply that the fire trails don’t exist any more, but that the current auto-attack has basically no effects whatsoever except for the little spark at the end of the final swing, which is pretty unusual.

Seeing the amount of datamined icons scrapped (hah), along with the change from the datamined name, i indeed think they reworked it from the ground up at a certain point of the development.

guess what, our next specialization is called forge, gets the torch & will use various traps (mines) as utility-skill. I guess, this time it will be balanced even more around the FT use…

I’m sure they will recycle the leftovers from scrapper at some point.

I still like the idea, and i will still play Scrapper but It’s lacking the WOW-factor, rly,
It’s a shame we rarely see the devs change skill-animations. I dont expect them to do it this time eighter but it would be great

Where did the fire go? Same place as our fire for gadgets when we got that worthless new version of gadgeteer. Same place as our enthusiasm went after we spent months pleading not to get another kitten kittening kitten Ai, only toget another kittening kitten Ai.

I actually think the new gadgeteer is pretty awesome. I figured that, the idea is not to play with it in mind, just play the game like you would normally, you’re definitely going to get hit no matter what and when you get hit enough, you will overcharge the gadgets. It happens so fast regardless of how you play, it just feels awesome. Double throw mine never felt so good and bigger Slickshoes pool? Count me in.

But yea, the thing about the Scrapper is, I don’t think the name fits the abilties that it’s been given. Everything it has deals with lightning and swiftness, seems more fitting for someone you would call Forger.
The Scrapper name seems more fitting for someone who applies tons of cripple and bleed.

But yea, just my opinion.

Uhm … they just overworked their idea ? If i read those skills from your link. They are pretty similiar to those skills we have now ? Just that there is “no” fire.It can be still added and in the trailer i think it was rocket charge. So in this case ask for rocket charge with fire animation ?

“All genius said it’s impossible – until someone just did it.”

Right into the gutter along with fuel mechanics for gyros and our secial mechanic (because stupid F mechanic would tke like 5 seconds to figure out as a band aid solution for gutted mechanic).

We got half-elite spec with half of our stuff out.

@ColinJohanson.2394 if you read this, why did you get so excited talking about fuel mechanic when it’s just boring cooldown ? Is this the case where you spoke about something NOT in the game? I thought you guys didn’t speak about thins that are not yet in the game to not get called out on it later? Guess what Colin I am calling you out on it right now. Fuel = boring normal cooldowns so where is our cool “fuel” mechanic ?

They switched the fire idea to electricity, which is what scrappers seem to be swinging around now.
