I think those drones shoulde be one. i dont thik those are utility or elite its look like some whole new mechanic maybe something like stances. I hope it will finally something group related.

I guess we obviously get the hammer melee-brawler, like shown in the teaser.
But figuring out the other specialization(s) could be hard for the engi since the class incorporates basically every steampunk clichee you can think of.
First of all, it was actually never stated how any specializations are available per class, nor if all get the same amount.
Second, the hammer-brawler (so a melee-heavy aspect) is confirmed.
the engineer is already a medium range class, all about spaming skills in a fast pace and mobility, given that the hammer would go in that line, I guess other specializations would actually represent the contrary.
So either we get a rather immobile, hard hitting medium range specialization (f.e. something along the lines of the old juggernaut trait – lots of stability and sustained pressure), or a long-ranged sniper-approach that would make more heavy use of the rifle, and maybe alter its weapon-skills all-together to fit the pew-pew style.
Such a specialization could in fact involve mobile combat-drones (golem-spheres) that fly towards the enemy and cause various distractions to cover the “sniper”. Something along the lines of soft-cc, minor condi-pressure and some dmg, while the actual burst is comming from hard-hitting,long range / long-cd attacks from the rifle.
So yea, we definitively get a hammer-brawler, but appart from that I guess a medium “unshakable” juggernaut or a long-ranged sniper with gadget- or drone-support are the most likely specializations for us.
Ofc I could be all wrong, the flying bots come together with the hammer and serve as passive boon-nodes that buff the engi and allies constantly (with some downtime on the buffs, ofc)

Basaltface I would sacrifice all my kit rotations if I could have the heavy shoulder cannon as an elite. omg. For real though I’d also like longbow, sword, mace, spear… maybe even focus for sheer access to skins. If we get longbow, I’m definitely cosplaying shirtless Rambo on my main character. If we get mace, I’ll be so glad to go toe to toe with a mace/shield warrior or guardian any day. If I get spear, I’ll do my best to look like a LoL character guarding creeps lol. Really looking forward to this expansion.

well with the hammer i already get what i wanted. I take anything they might throw at the class as a little cherry ontop. But yea.. a targeted ,damage heavy, ranged weapon would be nice, so if they really fork over a bazooka i prolly gonna need new pants lol.

I am actually more interested in what weapon the other specialization offers. I would love a 1 handed power weapon, such as a cross bow, so I could try a pure power build with my shield.

I analyze the engie drones at around 3:50 of this video. It seems they might just be mines that hover around and wait to approach their targets. Or they each give special buffs just based of the fact that they all have different coloured blinky lights.

Reduces all cooldowns on Elixirs/Toss Elixir and Elixir guns skills by 30%. When you toss an elixir you create an Explosion and an Acid pool (30s CD)?

Don’t misinterpret words that quickly – the point of specializations is that having one specialization will make having another specialization running at the same time impossible.
So one spec per class would be kinda silly, no?

My personal hopes;
1. Engineer is finally given a “hard split” into Combat Engineer & Machinist. Bombs, Weapon Kits, and similarly themed abilities will remain with Combat Engineer – Gadgets, Gizmos, Turrets, go to the new specialization Machinist.
2. Combat Engineer will gain new abilities for things like a sniper kit, cannon kit, etc.
3. Machinist will get mobile turrets (like the little robots you see in the teaser trailer) and science themed kits like a lightning rifle, fist kit (think Vi from LoL), and some actual cool and useful gadgets to use that will replace the trashy ones we currently have.

Well as per the HoT trailer it’s gonna be a Hammer-wielding Engineer with Batteries Not Included style bots. The bots in the video could be something as simple as a personal mobile mine field, or something along the lines of you maintain Protection as long as you have one bot up. Either way I’m psyched. Been itching for a new weapon for my Engi and I love Batteries Not Included.

While HoT will only have one Spec for each Prof, and it looks like Engi’s getting the “Demolisher” – explosion-hammer + flying drones, which is awesome – they can add Specs with content updates or future expansions, so here’s what would be cool for Spec #2.
Well, golems. Yeah. But not an AI golem, because no one likes Rangers (or their pets) and that’d be a horrible option for Engineer. Instead, PILOTED golems! Or some kind of charrified golem contraption that you can climb into and kill things with. Couldn’t make it too much tougher than a regular player, but instead of fast, spammable attacks, it could have powerful, slow attacks (which means it’d probably be used far more in PvE/WvW zergs than in PvP, but not every Spec has to be capable in every game mode). What would be hard would be coming up with a name, though… “Pilot” is too boring.

The new Engineer Specialization will be called the “Demolistionist”
He will swing a great hammer with as much ferocity as Link swings
his Megaton Hammer, demolishing all in his path. While he is busy smashing
faces, his mini drones follow him everywhere, providing him with passive
buffs on timed intervals, similar to a guardians virtues.
And he will be fierce and beautiful!
I think it was said that the specializations get new profession mechanics (IE: Toolbelt is replaced).
With the different colored lights on those drone things, I definitely think they’re the new mechanic. Really curious what they do. Maybe you activate it to make it chase someone down and explode, and it just comes back later when the recharge is up. Each drone applying a different effect to targets.
Also, I can’t believe they were actually able to make the engie hammer attacks place a rocket on the back when attacking. That is amazing as hell.

Demolitionist, rather?
I don’t really see a hammer-swinging madman as a “demolitionist”. A demolitionist is, to me, someone who uses strategically placed explosives to quickly and efficiently take down a structure. A demolisher destroys things with more force and… gusto. So I think Demolisher would fit better.
