Still A Bit Meta
I will note that of the teams that actually won 2 of their games…. only 1 of the 4 had an engi and both the teams that won none of their games had one.

Wow, people already riding the bandwagon that Engi is “nearly” out of meta. And just because the teams that lost had an engi doesn’t mean anything. There are so many different factors that influence a team’s success than just class.
I think when I said third choice, this is not equivalent to saying nearly out of meta. My thread title was a teaser I suppose, but the content does not support your defensive criticism.
I don’t believe i said that because they lost and had an engi that it necessarily meant anything, but only 1 team out of the 4 successful had one, and the two worst teams had one out of 8 total teams. Correlation does not necessitate causation but should still be considered.
One might also anticipate a disproportionate number of engi’s to the fact that many pro teams used to have one, and so members of their team will be specialized in it and less likely to want to give it up even if slightly sub-optimal in actual effectiveness, thus giving it a potential popularity that over-exaggerates its relevance. If this is at play you’d see a shift over time.
How I read this image: ele and rev are mandatory, but then you can play any of the remaining professions, as long as it’s not guardian
In a way the image also conveys the idea that class balance is a lot better than it use to be (with the exception of 1 class…. which is still played a lot non pro)

Yeah, I’m kind of surprised by that tbh. Is DH not any good? I thought their traps could present a reasonably potent threat, taking up the whole node and doing decent damage. My guardian friend and I have gotten some pretty sick wipes on the other team (like take out 3 of them instantly) combining his traps with my hammer/nade spike.
Cubones Mother – 80 mes
Jade Quarry [Uhhh]
I’ve been hammered by good guardians before. Especially in pairs….

It’ reasonably good in soloq, but the damage is predictable, and good players can easily focus them down.
I think recent druid nerf makes scrapper the best on-point bruiser which is always needed in gw2 pvp. Scrapper is also the best rezzbot currently with stability, function gyro and sneak gyro. Chrono and reaper nerf also made sure scrapper can hold its own in practically every 1v1 you face.
I find the worst case 1 v 1 wise for a scrapper is a good mesmer. Ele’s are more effecitve on point I think because of their lighting strikes and stun spams and projectile denial. I’m always more worried in a group fight when I see they have a good ele helping then a scrapper. Scrappers just can’t bunker they need to run about and avoid being pinned.
Scrappers can really be astounding rez bots with elix R Druids in general though are more useful if thier strategic about their teleport.

i actually think mesmer is one of the easier matchups. At least in my experience playing marauder with gyros and EG.
Point blank range blast gyro when they block with shield really messes em up, lots of cleave for illusions, reflect dome when they swap to staff, enough stability to deal with their CC, hammer 4 if they manage to get a burst off and my condi clears always seem sufficient to deal with whatever they can throw at me. Power shatter seems even easier.
Dont think i lost to a mesmer 1v1 since the season started. Necros and warriors give me a lot more trouble
Ah the good mesmers I play never enter this point blank range you speak of Their clones seem to however

Try my condi build against warriors. The decently high toughness… oodles of condi remove and constant barrage of condis is reasonably effective at taking warriors down. You have to kite away their initial opening however and never stand toe to toe unless you got your damaging block up.

close the gap with superspeed and leaps, mesmers cant really keep you at range. And if the mes is using shield 4 before i close the gap, he doesnt block anything, gets only 1 illusion out of it and i still get to gyro blast him when i close the gap. Easiest matchup for me personally (well DH might be easier) – just play aggressively from the start, CC, disrupt illusion generation and you will be fine.
