Still missing
Eh, the thread I started didn’t seem to garner much interest before it fell off the front page.
As a class we are still lacking in actual weapon skill diversity, which is really reinforcing our utter dependance on Kits right now; for everything from using Kits to trigger On Weapon Swap Sigils; to kits as a complete weapon replacement despite having non-scaling damage that will only be exacerbated when Ascended Weapons with their higher damage ranges come in.
Feel free to necro it with your own ideas or even better crosspost them into this newer thread if you think some of the suggestions work.

There have been many threads about melee weapons (and more weapons in general, considering the dearth of choices the Engineer has). There will be many more.
While I would love to see us get a melee weapon, don’t even count on it until they begin working on an expansion. Reason being, they would need to make traits for any new weapons introduced to the game, as well as balancing issues. Pretty much every class atm wants access to more weapons.

We have ToolKit that is excellent in melee. Also have BombKit for PvE melee. Not to mention that since Anet supposedly designed us to be mid-range fighters, we’re generally pretty close to melee as it is unless you’re running grenades.
Is the desire for a melee weapon specifically tied to the desire for an actual weapon rather than a kit option? Because since we can’t weapon swap I’d rather a melee kit over a weapon. I don’t want to get stuck in full melee.

Only reason id prefer a weapon rather than a kit is for more diverse builds. What we have going on right now is kind of lame :/
I would love a hammer.
I dunno about you guys but does it seem to you that they really didn’t do much with the toolkit? Because these things would not be my first choices. I would not worry about caltrops (cept for when using the kit refinement that was awesome and they need to bring that back seriously) so I would take out #2 and replace it with a drill or a chainsaw, or some other such attack that does a ton of damage but also inflicts bleeds crazy bleeds.
Sometimes I get the feeling engineers and all our problems are just being completely ignored. This was my favorite profession, but I am starting to loose hope for it. Currently I am struggling to raise a thief alt, and dislike nearly every second of it, but it is the best choice RP wise next to engineer. A shame really; engineers need some love.
