Stop being angry!
Well, you’re free to use any build you want. We can’t enforcce something)
BUT
If you try to share this build, you need to realize that it needs to be viable or competitive. And be prepared for feedback. Forum is for builds people should use to maximize their performance, not for “fun” builds.
There’s a sticky thread for posting random builds – you can post there if you just want to show your fun build.
Say you are an Engineer in real life:
There are many different types of engineers out there.
Your specialty is that you are an electrical engineer. You are awesome at your job of 15 years.
One day you wake and realize that you can no longer be an Electrical Engineer.
You and every one of the ex-Electrical Engineers are now Nuclear Engineers.
Every day the true Nuclear Engineers say how bad you are at doing what they do better. You try your hardest every day but do not have the tools you need to succeed on the same level as the true Nuclear Engineers.
Solution: Go drinking every night and start bar fights until you figure out how to be an Electrical Engineer again.
Not Sure If Serious [BZNZ] ||| Cynical [CYN]
Comparing Builds for engineer makes less sence than for any other profession. Why? Because some ppl press 5 keys in a second while moving, swaping kits so fast – u must concentrate on seeing this. Others don’t. So if an engineer, played 1000 hours+, shows a build: a new player with maybe 50 hours can’t copy paste this. Because he needs a lot of practise to play that build with the same speed. If he copy, he will suck balls with it.
This is why discussions about engineer are so difficult. Because u don’t really know on which step of engineer evolution your opponent is actually.
The reason why we are angry is justified.
We haven’t had but 1 major bug looked at for four months now.
The reason I’m angry is because I DO love my class and want it to succeed and make sense. Right now with all of it’s problems not only does it defy many of the laws of physics it also doesn’t match the laws that the other classes possess easily. ie, my explosive radius of my grenades isn’t as wide as the dagger splash damage of my thief and gets worse when I trait into the line that is supposed to give me a wider radius.
See how that works? It’s like every choice we once had has gone and makes things worse which gets more and more frustrating as time goes on.
We just need them to put a whole team on this for 1 month to get the bugs out and that would silence many of our complaints instantly I suspect.
Well, you can just look at thief as a class. Ignore the whole pvp OP controversy and just look at his traits.
When I play my thief alt I want almost every single trait. They all have uses. All have some synergy with real gameplay. And I want ot have even more trait-points.
Compare this to engi. Picking traits for engineer is like looking for something usefull in a junk pile. We kinda need to invent something out of the few medicore traits we’re given.
Yeah it seems very engineerish. But it’s nowhere near a good class design. No wonder we’re angry. We’re like bums of GW2.
Yes I know we suck, and I’m angry too.
But there is no need to shoot down every build by comparing it to other classes. We aren’t going to have a build as good or better than other classes.
Instead of shooting them down, say yeah – this is as good as all the other builds we have, have fun!
“Have fun” as in “please proceed to create more bad reputation for our profession”?
I think it is more important to show people current viable builds. Not to encourage them to continue being subpar.
A lot of posters here in the Engineer forum are justified and have the right to be angry at the current state of the profession.
Why do you ask? Because they are VERY PASSIONATE about the Engineer class. Believe it or not, but a lot of folks actually really love the Engineer and enjoy not only the mechanics but the lore behind the profession. What they are angry about is the silence from ArenaNet when it comes to fixing known bugs. It doesn’t help either that the Engineer receives constant nerfs instead of fixes to an already injured profession.
With that said, I fall under the category of a passionate Engineer player. I absolutely love the class! I want it to be the best it can be and that includes getting a lot of the bugs fixed. Those of us who don’t throw up our hands and give up on the Engineer are the ones truly committed to the class and fight to get our voices heard. Hopefully, eventually ArenaNet will finally grace us and give us much needed responses and bug fixes.
I’m angry because I LOVE the engineer! Every other class feels so plain and apathetic after having played one, even the so loved so fun elementalist is just dull and repetitive!
I’m angry because we still have a ton of bugs from the release and despite few being fixed, even more were added patch after patch!
I’m angry because we get absolutely no love, we’re the least played class with the least populated forum and still nothing is done to make the engineer better!
I’m angry because the endgame of GW2 is arguably based all around skins and we have the fewest themed armor and weapon ones!
I’m angry because we used to be the least wanted class in a dungeon, even before last patch, and now we are so useless we’re getting kicked from parties!
But most of all, I’m angry because, despite all this problems, we still get no official response whatever!
A simple “We know that engineer is in a lot of trouble with bugs and subpar abilities right now and we are working hard to fix it” would be enough to make me a happy panda
After all, the real problem here is the lack of communication…
I want to be OP. Then I can look at warriors, shoot a flamethrower down their mouth and do the Asuran dance as I eat a cheeseburger irl then go over to redtube and fap one out. Because I’m that awesoem.
RIght now I just log out, weep silently into my pillow then write a haiku
Yes, engineers are pretty kitten right now, but stop being so negative about it!
No. But I am not crying over it either, I’ve rerolled another class.
I just don’t have confidence that Anet really knows what they want to do with the Engineer class. And the current promises don’t sound good. For example, making kits scale with gear (instead of giving kits their own good stats) will only make the engineer situation worse.
We’re not engineers to be good. We’re engineers to be engineers.
Which is one of the reasons I am out for awhile. I’m an engineer in real life, of a variety of kinds. I know how the sausage is made, I know what I want. The Engineer class has nothing but a bit of victorian lipstick on a pig. There is little that is engineering-ish about current engineer gameplay.
The way I see it is there are two different kinds of class-choosers in mmos…the people who love their class, and the people who love to be OP. That’s why there are so many warriors around, half of them truly love the warrior style, and others just like that they’re so good.
See, this is the kind of beaten down talk that bugs me so much in this forum. Like you should be happy to have the class at all. Folks, there are so many other classes you can try. You don’t have to play the engineer out of dogged loyalty, nor do you need to delete those characters. Try something else for awhile.
Because it is not unfair to ask for a class that is both effective and fun.
There is little that is engineering-ish about current engineer gameplay.
I hate picking out one or two sentences from a long post and commenting only on that, but I’m doing it here. I’m NOT a irl engineer, but I believe the profession does have an engineer feel, with its kits, gadgets, turrets, and elixirs (okay this one is more alchemist, but it still kinda fits). Using a hodge-podge set of tools to accomplish a goal feels engineerish to me.
I think I’m disenfranchised with the profession because I don’t feel I can specialize in a role and excel at it, due to lack of synergy between the utilities and traits. It’s like the philosophy is to give engineers a bag of random capabilities and let him see if he can make something useful out of it. That feels engineerish to me, but practically speaking in the current implementation it turns out to be weak compared to other professions. And if I want to go the other way and build myself very versitile, something ANet seems to think is great, I end up being good at nothing at all.
The fact is ANet expected the meta to reach a point where the public is coming up with effective ways to play. And so far the public thinks the engineer sucks (except a few people who are at either end of the skill curve). Yet ANet does not appear to be stepping in to nudge us in the right direction, and that makes me a bit miffed.

Regardless if the anger is justified, why are you taking it out on a fellow gamer? Is i somehow his fault? Or maybe you cant stand knowing that someone actually enjoys him/herself so you ruin it?
BTW, how do you block people on this forum? i set this guy to ignore but i can still see the persons posts.

No one’s taking it out on a players. On builds – yes.
Or do you prefer to have a bad build and be a fifth wheel to your party, rather than hear that your build is bad and you should change it?
We’re engineers, we should be all about maximizing efficiency. Not about self-praizing.

Show us your depressed engineer haikus, Nightpath!
Yeah, the engineer is pretty kittened up right now, especially since our damage on anything is for kittene. No telling what ANet is thinking about this.
Engineers definitely require high levels of skill to kill things normal folks can reduce to corpse mode in 3/4 to half the time.
Loudmouth, lousy PvPer, and mediocre PvEer.
I don’t own, I just play

HEAR HEAR! I play my engineer in competitive PvP, but it takes far more skill to be a good engineer compared to the rest of the meta (guards for example). I just play it for fun though, not because it’s good. BUT you’ll find that playing it often can lead you to getting good enough with dodges and your skills to be able to win your fights. Engineers aren’t easy, but they are fun as nads!
