Ok, so I made two suggestion threads in a row, but I got this idea while writing the last one while I was associating heal skills with particular traitlines.

I was thinking, what if we brought back Elixir Infused Bombs, not as a trait, but as a healing skill?

Basically, as an explosives-synergistic heal skill, a literal elixir bomb would be pretty cool looking. You’d drop it, and after a few seconds, it would explode in a big blob of medicine that heals all allies in it’s radius, and has some kind of negative effect on enemies in range as well. (Either a condi or a knockdown, most likely)

Only problem is… that’s exactly what the heal turret already does when used “properly” You drop the thing, overcharge it and blast it in it’s own water field, which knocks back nearby enemies, as that functionality is going to be baseline. And while that’s really useful, I don’t think it’s very good design. You should WANT to keep your healing turret around. It’s a turret, not a bomb. So if we’re going to use it as a bomb, let’s just put the bomb in the game to begin with!

So an elixir bomb would effectively have the current heal turret’s functionality, but then the heal turret could get tweaked to actually pulse healing instead of regen (like Super Elixir does) and make the turret less of a burst heal and more of a sustained turret you actually want to keep around, (and on the opposite end, something your PvP opponents will actually want to target) Overcharging it can still cure conditions and make a water field.

Well, they’re not really in position to add new healing skills at the moment, as they wouldn’t add one to one profession and not the others.

Is the purpose of this just to provide a different healing skill option, or to serve as a replacement for the elixir-infused bomb trait?

In any case, I think all healing skill related discussion as far as engineers is concerned is relatively moot unless the functionality of healing “turret” is altered. Note I say “turret” because we all know it’s just a glorified water bomb and not a real turret.

Additionally, given the announcement on the trait changes, it’s quite possible that elixir-infused bombs may be getting altered or combined with other traits. Or, it’s possible it may be getting completely removed or something. We’re not sure for now. However, that might mean that elixir-infused bombs will be a more attractive option for builds once the trait changes finally go through. It’s a bit hard to discuss such balance matters right now when we don’t know exactly what they have in store down the pipeline.

Ah, but everyone IS getting a new heal skill.
I didn’t say a new heal skill necessarily had to get added to the base class. It could be an elite specialization thing.
And besides that, they’re re-working the med kit, so there’s room to tweak other skills too.

Eh, that’s what I’m saying though. If the heal turret is going to be a bomb, why not just give us a bomb then? And that’s why I also made suggestions on how the healing turret’s functionality would be altered to make room for the bomb.

Honestly, it’s not so much a replacement for the trait as something inspired by the trait. I think an an actual elixir bomb would be cool, and if they really ARE axing the trait completely, it would be a cool throwback. But it’s also a skill that wouldn’t really need to exist if we get to keep the existing trait. So it’s kind of a spiritual replacement, if it comes to that.
