Right now the elite skill mortar is useless. Turning it into a gadget would be a small step to make it less crappy. It could at least make use of gadget traits.

Why gadgets? We already have an elite that drops turrets, mor’tar doesn’t fit the elixir stile and we already have good kits.

I know that with this small change it would still be 10 times worse than supply crate but at least it is a buff.

Well they are all always buffing bad skills. Like incoming buff to warrior rifle. Rifle probably still a bad weapon, but a buff shorts the gap between the good weapons and the bad ones.

Which makes me wonder how that does anything. Mortar already has a 100% uptime, so the cooldown reduction is only useful if you need to relocate or it gets destroyed. Neither of which really matter at all when pulling out a Mortar is almost universally a self-nerf.
And getting a Boon is rather weak because Mortar scales like kitten. Getting a short boon isn’t going to make any difference.

So the Mortar gets reclassified, added to “scale” with some traits that don’t really add much to it anyway. The buff to the Rifle for warriors is far more meaningful if just for the simple fact it at least gets used.

Any change to Mortar that don’t actually get people to use it for more than a joke are pointless changes.

I say make the Mortar’s shots both Positive to allies hit, as well as negative to enemies hit. So each shot has two effects. that makes it more useful

Still useless.

It is useless because

  • It has no mobility.
  • Weak DPS- can’t crit, huge arc so there is more travel time,
  • Low range- Grenadier lets grenades have 1500 range. Even with Elite supply traited, mortar is no better than grenades.
  • Has minimum range
  • Paints you an easy target

The only way to save Mortar is to increase the range dramatically. Meaning, I should be able to use my mortar from Home objective and be able to hit mid objective. Otherwise, just delete it. There is no other way to fix mortar.

Uh gadget traits are extremely bad! Don’t see how this would buff anything!
