Support Engineer for all game modes but Spvp.
This really wouldn’t work well in dungeons or fractals. There’s very little, if any reason to run a support role as an engineer in any aspect of the game, as this game provides little incentive to spec for it for a few reasons:
1. Healing power scales so inefficiently with most skills, resulting in the fact that gearing for power provides significantly better gains than gearing for support (i.e., your best defense is a good offense). The only class in my mind that benefits gearing for healing power is a bunker guardian in sPvP, and occasionally you’ll see a condition ranger with a Settler amulet. Aside from that, you just get better gains elsewhere.
2. Most “support” skills don’t scale off stats. There is no boon duration armor set, and a power grenadier engineer will cleanse conditions just as well as you will: Fumigate doesn’t work any differently in Cleric gear, so the incentive to gear for support is even less.
3. Guild Wars 2 is about damage prevention, not refilling health bars. This game doesn’t have dedicated healers because every class has the tools to mitigate damage in a group setting; ours is condition removal, just as a thief’s is blind, and a guardian’s is walling/reflecting projectiles. And for each of these classes you again run into the situation where gearing for power makes the most sense.
If everyone does their job right, a FOTM 50 run is completely painless despite everyone wearing full dps gear. This game has removed the concept of “support” as a defensive/reactive role and redefined it as an offensive/active one, at least as far as PvE is concerned.
