TPvP Bunker Engi Build?
i wish i had time to respond before work. there are several bunker builds for tPvP, the new patch opened up two new exciting ones for me. FT, and EG.
Check my sig for the FT builds, not much has changed in the most recent build, all the info is in there.
the new EG build is 0/10/30/30/0, cleric’s amulet/knight jewel, 5 earth + 1 engi rune, swapping out Jugg for Automated response and Energized Armor for Elite Supplies.
anyway, i really have to boogie, experiment away, when I get home I will flesh out this post. not much should be a mystery though, straightforward builds.

Boons
- 50% Boon duration, 65% protection duration
- Perma swiftness
- Perma vigor
- Two sources of protection
- Aegis
- Free Blind on melee (might take kit regen instead and see how it feels)
- Elixir B at 75%
- Multiple sources of Regen
- Stunbreaker
Combos
- Two light fields, one fire, one smoke
- 5 Blast finishers (shield, turret, supply drop, BoB, Eg#4)
- 1 Leap finisher
- 1 Projectile finisher
- Two knockbacks (technically BoB is a launch)
Now I just need to get better at my blast combos. I had fun with EG#5, EG#4 blast out, Rocket Boots back in followed by Rocket Kick. It looks hilarious and provides some decent heals when you blast and leap combo off the light field. Needless to say, this little Asura was ping-ponging all over nodes last night. I took Rocket Boots for the awesome new mobility, a source of burning, the leap combo and fun.
Damage is nothing to write home about, and it doesn’t have a lot of condi removal. But with high hp/toughness those regen heals help take the edge off of conditions.
I need help landing my healing turret combos. I was finding myself taking damage very slowly, but not able to fill it quickly. Not the build’s fault, I’m just not used to healing turret, overcharging it, detonating it, then blast finishing other skills before the field wears off.
I remember a post on these forums with supporting youtube videos showing how to pull off certain light field and smoke field combos with healing turret/smoke bomb. Anyone remember that?

By no means perfect but this is what I’ve been messing with lately.
- 3000 Armor when in the Flamethrower
- 20,000 HP base
- 50% Critical Hit Chance
- 50% Burning Duration
- 53% Damage Reduction when stunned
- Perma Vigor/Swiftness (on crit)
May not be the tankiest method but you’re still very durable while also being able to pump out a lot of Burning Damage so you’re not slapping like a wet fish. Rocket Boots may be swapped out for Elixir S, and you may use a Shield in place of the Pistol off-hand if you’re having trouble landing Blowtorch.
Here is mine. Works like a champ. 5 knockbacks, you should hear the QQ’s I get from people lol.

For tPvP you need condition cleanse and heals for a bunker. Try 20 in alchemy for 409 (cleanse) then run elixir B and S.
Use Rabid stats with Elixir gun and dual pistols for damage and a fair chunk of survivability.

I feel like Automated Responce is is pretty useless vs condi builds. It doesn’t cleanse your conditions when getting under 25% hp, only taking down new ones, but not always.
That little change nerfed my whole pvp bunker build. It just seem it’s not viable anymore, since we don’t have good counter against condi burst builds, like hgh or potentially new necro builds. We’re coming back to randomness of engi, where your condi cleanse, if you’re not taking elixirs, only depends on luck (like light field + 20% chance of combo finisher from pistol). After elixir S nerf, elixir R nerf, it looks like ANet doesn’t want engineers becoming bunkers.
I feel like bunker engineers before patch had their niche, because they could survive a lot with protection and with automated response. Without that I can clearly see that it’s better to take any other class with access to stability.
I mean, I want to ask ANet, how I should make a viable bunker after all these changes? Is it possible? Or we should try “smash your button faster” dps vs dps game?

I find Automated Response to be hilarious. Was fighting a few necro’s earlier and they messaged me in rage because they couldn’t kill me even with all their new buffs, because they couldn’t do any damage to me when I hit 6k lol.
