Tanky High Damage Scrapper?
I’ve had some success with this build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASncoClYhFpCepC0ehlNjiOsP71+bdytebc7KgAA-TJBFABCcBAEvMQN7PAwDAAA
It’s a take on marauder elixir rifle – but replace elixir with gyros and rifle with hammer.
the difference is, you don’t use the gyros reactively, but BEFORE you enter the fray. bulwark manages to take off some of the initial burst, and purge is your go-to condition handler, and it lives surprisingly well. But you must activate them before you enter the fight so they cushion the initial burst while you wreck havoc. it’s especially good at fighting on points. you shoot a couple of mortar shells on your target then leap with hammer 3 into the fields. you can also use hammer 5 as a set-up for nade barrage, instead of net shot.
This is what I’m using.

Utility slots besides Flamethrower are optional.
Idling around 3000 power in combat (20+ stacks of might easily), 3700 toughness (+500 from adaptive armor), 54-94% critical chance from traits and fury (usually 74%).
Plus stability, blocks, evades, invul, blind, stealth, daze, stun, knockdown. Plus resistance to conditions (-20% duration from runes, -20% damage and -33% duration for criple/chill/immobilize from traits).

Sorry, to be more clear, not looking for random builds. Most of these I’ve tried, they’re just a different take on current builds. No, what I’m looking for is something on par with D/D Ele. That’s the way these people are describing it, and I’ve seen no such thing.
Also, to those using the healing Gyro, why would you take that over Healing Turret?
I think is just a marauder rifle build with Adaptative Armor, which gives you insane tankiness
My best success with a tanky scrapper is as follows:

Use dodge and throw elixir b liberally for serious might stacking. The healing turret does some impressive healing, on top of the tankiness of knight runes.

This are some of the competitive tanky Scrapper builds in PvP:

The above build is a 1v1 or 1v2 focused build.
You can play a very tanky, teamfight power-cleave oriented build too:

you can swap toolkit for B if you want, but i prefer TK most of the time. that being said, you can also swap inventions for tools also, however i really enjoy inventions sustain options for a melee build. you can swap H for HT also, but your might build up suffers.
otherwise the build is pretty standard cele HGH. stack 25might, go ham, rotate blocks etc etc.
daze on hammer then leap.if out of melee range spam egun auto for weakness.currently a Boyfriend main :P

I’ll work through all these tonight and see if I find what I’m looking for.

The reason people say they feel tanky is because of super speed HP regeneration.
You have easy access to lots of superspeed = lots of heal
You won’t find high damage and tanky in the same build. You will find sustain damage however.
The reason people probably feel engineer is tanky is because they aren’t used to engineer surviving direct damage for more than a few seconds. It’ll all die out eventually, hopefully with engineer still able to survive direct damage for more than a few seconds. No longer the punching bag that always shrink to survive enviable death.
I don’t know about the comparison to a D/D Cele Ele, but this build was able to 1v1 with just about as much success for me:
I was even able to beat a Chrono 2/2 times in a 1v1 server and found myself downing people while outnumbered pretty consistently.
For added challenge use Medic Gyro instead of HT lol
Jade Quarry
It’s couse of the regen it got with scrapper trait line. Swiftness, super speed, backpack regenerator+regen itself = huge healin. Add to this 2x block, evade frame, blinds, CC’s and higly skilled scrapper can be unkillable.
