The Engineer profession question and interest
Well, #2 reflects pretty well how a lot of people have felt since the betas. Warrior gets a real ranged weapon while engineer, the one with less armor and less health, gets a shortish range weapon.
And people have been suggesting mace/hammer for months. ROCKET HAMMER!

1. Engineers were originally conceived as a third heavy armor profession. I think the devs were afraid they would get too hard to kill and changed that pre-beta.
2. Part of the design philosophy for engineers is that they would excel in “mid-range” fights, so I think the devs intentionally kept the long-range abilities to a minimum (1 kit). I originally thought I was signing on to a ranged dps profession as well, but I’ve come to love the quirky nature of the shotgun.
3. Engineers were the last profession designed and, as I mentioned, weren’t originally supposed to wear medium armor. Probably all that the artists designing medium armor got from the devs was the thing about medium armor professions being “adventurers” and that thieves and rangers would wear medium armor.
4. I’m no lore expert. My guess is that there just wasn’t time to create an engineer lore before launch. The profession was announced very late in development.

1. As NevirSayDie wrote, engineer was originaly heavy armor class, dunno why they changed it but when playing my engi, I very often got feeeling like I should be wearing heavy armor, cuz my skills, in certain situations, forces me to get very close to the enemy yet I don’t have much of protection or escape mechanic. Anyhow, that is what they decided so we have to deal with it.
2. As “mid-range” class the shot gun like feeling of rifle seems ok, thou a lot of rifle model’s (including The Predator) is long rifle not short shotgun. Yeah, I would like to see hammer on my enginner as well.
3. I have this issue as well. The best I could found is Commando armor – see pvp locker (minus the shoulders and helmet; they are terrible).

1. we can currently out bunker heavies in medium armor, devs probably thought a cc heavy heavy class would be op.
2.original there where shotguns but devs scratched that. we got stuck with shotgun skills
3. there are armor sets that give of a demo/chemist look but that’s about it
4.idk, all i know is that the chars did it as they despise magic.

(and there are a lot of engi looking weapons, it’s just that we can’t use it >.<)

Okay, now technically the only new profession that the devs gave in guild war 2 are the Guardian, Engineer, and maybe the Thief. I am pretty sure a lot of people here would agree that it’s common sense to work on the new stuff first to get it right.
Yeah, not diggin the shotgun stuff with the rifles. They should make an actual shotgun weapon along with the rifle even though it might be too late, but then they could get a useful legendary that looks good. Heavy armor would definitely make more sense, but there aren’t many heavy armors that go with the class well either, but i suppose better than the medium armor. I think sorrow’s embrace armor would look pretty cool with the engi with it’s industrial look and stuff. I’m really surprised the charr don’t have a racial armor that’s akin to engi, they only have like ranger style armor.
