Hi fellow engis:-) As first I must apologize for my bad english and as second I want introduce my supreme semi-bunker (more bunker then semi) build witch I use in tournamens with great success.

Few Tips:
- This build is very hard to handle because you will be operate with 4 kits and switch them very often
- Build is builded around high survability and almost perma chill – chill is amazing debuff and many ppl quite ignore him. 66% slow and cooldown increase totaly demolish class with quickbased builds like HS thieves. Its stack in duration so its not so much matter in how order and timeline you will triger it.
- Doing damage is quite tricky. I usualy starts with stacking confusion from Pry Bar, Conccusion Bomb and Static Shot. Then use pistol&bombs combo on melee and pistol&elixir gun combo on ranged enemies and also all other utilites for various situation. Its simillar to other pistol&shield bunkers.
- Super Elixir is amazing for condition remove be sure you have one always underfoot (especialy against necros). Also dont forget blast in this field for retaliation.

I’m not really sure about using sigil of ice. Your crit chance will be 24% with fury, meaning about 8% of shots will apply the 2 second chill…
Why not sigil of chilling? Is it just because it is bugged? I don’t know if the sPvP variant of sigil of chilling is bugged, but the major one in PvE/WvW should still give you a duration boost. That would probably have much more usability than a small on-crit effect chance, not to mention the sigil of hydromancy would put the sigil of ice on cooldown due to shared cooldowns.
You can also get more chill if you go with the grenade kit, but maybe that’s going a bit too extreme for what you want with this build.
I’ve not tested this, or even played my engineer in a long while, but wouldn’t the rabid amulet be a better choice? higher condi dps, but more importantly a higher precision → more chance to crit → more chance to chill?

If he decides to go with sigil of ice, then possibly. It depends how extreme he would want to get with chill applications though.
However, it would conflict with the shared cooldown on sigil of hydromancy, which is why I think sigil of chilling would probably be the better way to go for an extra 20% duration on all chills.

Hmm I dont realize it share CD. But 10% isnt so much. Instead of this will maybe better condi stack or leeching sigil.

Soldier is much more better for bunker even if you use pure condition build. Bonus from runes and carrion jewel give you enough condi dmg.
Crit looks very low but it still proc very often imo.

You just gave me an amazing idea for my new build!
Grenadier, Sigil of Hydromancy, and Runes of Grenth are what you need to maximize Chill. The only issue here is how Sigil of Ice interacts with the Hydromancy Sigil because once any Sigil is on cooldown other Sigils with a cooldown cannot be proc’d. That and Sigil of Ice is pretty crappy to begin with, given it’s short duration, low proc chance, and long cooldown.
I’d really advocate stretching out to get Grenadier if you use Grenades. There is way too much difference with it and without. It’s a 9 second chill if you land all of them at that point. Not sure what you’d drop though defensively. Even with just Power and no condi-dmg or crit Grenades with Grenadier do plenty of damage.
Maximize one thing while sacrifice many others (I realy havent 20 points for grenadier:-)) isnt best way. Also I havent anything what I can switch for grenades:-) Bombs has great dmg and combo fields. Concussion and Smoke bombs are just awesome. Toolkit, kitten who can live without Prybaring faces, block and pull:-) Elixir gun, well, double super elixir – best condition removeal in game and retaliation field, decent cripple and leap what save my life so many times:-) Only what grenades in this build can offer is just bit more chill while lose so many.
MORTAR TIME:-D
Yesterday I tested this build with Mortar (yes you read right Mortar). Noone use that so I try give it a chance and results are very good.
- 10s chill field is just awesome. Just jump into Mortar, fire 4 and 5 on the ground and leave Mortar. Enemy players most times totaly ignored builded Mortars so you can often go back and fire it multiple times.

well it really work for me since all my Chill duration is 1.5x

I think the biggest weakness with this build, is that we have no solid functioning utilities or weapons skills that have chill, to support it. It seems we get alot more value to use sigils and runes to work with effects our existing skill can already create, rather then having those sigils and runes work on an entirely desperate effect on their own.
If you’re trying to maximize Freezing, it seems like 50% extra freeze is pretty mediocre. With 2 runes of Lyssa, 2 runes of Grenth, a sigil of hydromancy and a sigil of chilling, 30 into explosives (+condition duration), you’re sitting at 80% additional chill duration. Add cheap food, like mushroom Pizza, and you’re well over the 100% chill bonus (I think condition duration maxes at 100%, someone please correct me if I’m wrong). With grenades and your hydromancy sigil you’re able to keep up permachill easily. Add in some frost guns, to which there was a link recently on the engi forum, and there’s your Mr. Freeze build.
I know the Engineer class is typically bad at Min/Maxing, but this build seems to cry for it.
