Q:

Hello, fellow Engies.

I’ve been enjoying Engy quite a bit. He’s fun, he’s full of tricks, and he has turrets.
Except realistically, I only have room for 1 turret on my skill bar. Considering that they don’t scale, I suppose most people wouldn’t put too many of them onto their bars either. So then, what is your favorite turret to use?

I have only unlocked the tier 1 turrets so far. I have been using Rifle turrets so far due to its low cooldown, but I’m thinking of changing to the meatier (plus better CC) fire turret. Also..I’m sick of having the kitten rifle turret trying to attack invisible targets, or aggroing crap from half the map away for no apparent reason.

Any suggestions + pros/cons for each turret? I’m guessing Rifle is a nobrainer, offering middle ground in power/cooldown/ease of use. But what of the other ones?

I’ll give my own personal feelings and you can take away from it what you like.

Thumper turret is probably the tankiest its good for using as a meat shield in a pinch and the toolbelt gives you a blast combo finisher. So for pve its definitly a nice one cd’s are a little long though.

Rocket turret tankier than rifle and does heavy damage and its overcharge allows it a knockdown. Downside is its 60 second cd. Good for taking down harder npc’s as it also has a long range. (will shoot stuff you dont want it too like rifle because of this)

Net turret long cd on fire for some cc. overcharge however is faster with a nice stun. Shorter cd than rocket but no damage. Honestly rarely used this in pve extremely nasty for long pvp fights as the toolbelt gives you another net.

Flame turret good combination of tankyness mixed with a nice overcharge (for more tankiness). Does moderate damage at a moderate range. Its toolbelt skill is very good for its short cd. (used this turret a lot leveling if nothing else for the ae blind)

Anyway, you get the idea and honestly i think you got the right idea. I found myself using thumper for hard encounters. Rocket for boss/hard encounters (because of its range stays out of some boss ae) Flame/Rifle for heart quest encounters or on the move situations. Net rarely got used by me outside pvp.

It should also be noted, more so for pvp, that if you overcharge the rocket turret immediately when deployed, you’ll get 2 knockdowns spaced 4s apart instead of just one.

I dont care for the thumper and net turrets for pve.

I can never seem to get the thumper in range of any one for it to hit them. And it doesnt pull agro on its own it would seem.

And the net turret fires far too slow for use as an every day pve turret. Tho once I found my self fighting a silver vet spider thing in a cave and the net turret from my supply drop and the one I had equiped bought me alot of needed time and control over it. I felt so elite doing that fight.

If they ever get the deployable turret trait working I think the thumper turret will be alot more useful.
And I bet the net turret will be too, for grouped pvp. being able to toss it behind incoming enemys to net some one and keep them out of the start of the fight.

I use two turrets: the healing turret and the rifle turret. I also have the trait “static discharge” from the tools line. with this combination, I can heal twice (toolbelt regeneration plus healing turret – which also helps other players around me) – the rifle turret isn’t powerful but it has a fast recharge, including it’s toolbelt shot. In combination with the static discharge thats a total of two heals, a fast shot, a decent DoT plus two free AoE electrical attacks. Very good use of turrets, IMO.
