[GoA] Guardians of Äsgard

Throw Mine skill is OP now, why is no one using this masterpiece!?
It isnt worth the skill slot imo. There are so many other ways to get that knockback without giving up the slot. The damage isnt anything to write home about.. The toolbelt mines scatter randomly. Needs work imo.
I did not see Throw Mine in the update notes, what did I miss?
Throw Mine skill is OP now, why is no one using this masterpiece!?
I’ve considered it but haven’t used it much. It’s definitely a solid skill that I can think of a lot of uses for. With Speedy Gadgets and points in Tools the cooldown is around 14 seconds. I play mainly PVE but I can think of uses in PVP such as dropping one behind yourself if a Thief is nearby.
With Static Discharge you also get two back to back lightning bolts when you drop the minefield and then when you detonate it.
I can see it being hard to make room for it on my bar since it’s fairly situational.
Unless something changed, the knock back radius was way too small for my taste. Not worth the slot I would pick bombs before I picked that.
The toolbelt skill has cast time and the mines scatter randomly.
Even if I’m standing on the enemy while I use that skill, it’s still not quaranteed that even half mines will hit if i detonate them instantly.
The mines on this class even the racial one for Charr barely hit anything, they actually have to stand on a single pixel to explode notably with larger creatures.
They told us they would look into them, however if it’s anything like how the targeting issues for the cone attacks on the FT/EG went I wouldn’t expect it anytime soon.
Throw mine is very powerful in WvW. Every other knockback (Mesmer wall is technically a pull) in the game is centered on the character. The mine is targeted, so it can be used to move your opponents wherever you like.
Example: While sieging a tower, opponents will sometimes get pulled off walls (Tool Kit, Mesmer Focus Wall). Their immediate response is to run back into the keep, and without fast CC, they’ll often succeed. Throw a mine right in front of their door, and you have an always-ready, perfectly aimed/timed knockback that will throw them right back into your zerg (which has probably reacted by now).
If you’re getting backed up against a cliff, try throwing the mine through your enemy and knocking them through you and over the edge.
If you’re fighting on a choke point and mesmer portals are a concern, try placing one in the bare spots of your team to help cover the gaps.
Chasing an opponent? Net them, then toss the mine through them to bring them back into range of your allied CC.
Outside of WvW, meh.
the damage from it + tool belt can be really nice.
The knock back is nice, and since it can’t be blocked now it is great when used against P/S engi’s or guardians.
But I hate the tool belt ability due to the tiny radius / the RNG of mine placement.
Sometimes you get a nice grouping and with the trait from explosives it’s great damage, but 90% of the time for me at least it is impossible to get the mines to trigger on their own and even with an enemy on top of them when detonating it’s hard to get more than 2-3 mines to hit which is okay but not great.
if the tool belt grouped up better and had a wide radius I would use it more. Right now like a lot of engi gadgets it’s very situational in use.
If I am gonna 1v1 a guardian or a P/S engi I’ll equip it. Other wise I don’t use it.
The mine is awesome for controlling your enemy.
Being able to throw down the mine and splode it when needed is awesome.
Good for point control and running away.
I no longer use it because I found an awesomer build but its always fun knocking people onto their butts.
And nothing is more important than fun.
I really wish the cast time were instant or at least .5sec for the toolbelt, I’d love to use the skill in a static shock build, I think it could be pretty solid.
Fun fact, throw mine’s cooldown isn’t effected by the 20% gadget cooldown reduction from tools, and the toolbelt skill’s cooldown also isn’t effected by any points in tools. I’ll put this in the bug section as well, but I thought this might not get buried as quickly :P
I agree the toolbelt skill needs to be more viable but the Mine its self is really good in WvW and Pve against Boss Creatures, and everyone forgot to mentions it removes Boons. Knockback is good too.
Let’s not forget that it’s a blast finisher on a low cooldown.
The untraited skill has a 18 sec CD I think, and this lets you use those combo fields fairly often. Example: drop a mine, Big Ol’Bomb and a Fire bomb right after. The Big Ol’Bomb will blast with the fire field, add the mine blast to that and magnetic inversion if you’re using a shield: instant 9 AoE stacks of might. :P
Besides being an extra cheap blast finisher, I don’t see many uses to it because of its small radius.
I find it handy in PvE, I play keep away with the main skill and once I put down a mine field I position myself so that the biggest cluster of mines is directly behind a mob and then use the rifle knockback to fire it through as many of them as I can – it’s fun seeing how many mines you can trigger this way!
Because they don’t know the toolbelt mine ability is also removing boons now. You can remove like 6 boons every 20 seconds now.
What I like to do in spvp. Have your normal slots but switch one to mine use toolbet skill and drop mine than switch back no cds
I use “Mine” a lot with “Sharple” and Elixir Gun. Really nice to cripple enemy, Knwock them back, Use Elixir to jump back with Acide and cripple enemy again with Poison effecs and shots. And I like using Rifal to slow enemy down or dual pistols. Really nice stuff.
I find it handy time to time but the radi on both the utility and tool belt mines is way to small, even with the trait from explosives.
But the targeted mine is a great AoE knock back for tower defenses, and when in a zerg at point blank range the damage from the tool belt skill is nice.
But if the tool belt had a tighter grouping or was target able it would be much more useful imo.
So many times the tool belt is wasted due to horrible grouping on the mines. That and most of the time they will never detonate on their own.
