I tried running this for the first time last night in WvW. But I would place it in the middle of a zerg and it would not automatically detonate on proximity. Neither the Throw Mine nor the Mine Field. I would always have to detonate it myself. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Can someone tell me how to use it properly?
If it is a bug, does it happen only in WvW?

They don’t respond to tickets.
They have responded to every ticket I have ever turned in. So I do not know what your talking about.
Sure they do not respond to /bug reports, but help tickets that you file to report issues have always gotten a response.
Anyway, I just sent in a help ticket, and was informed that there is an issue, and they are aware of it and working on it. (odd since someone just stated they do not reply to them)………..So I was looking through the bug forums and there are a few threads on this, one was replied to with a Anet individual. Further research showed some information on this in recent patch notes, of an expanded radius as well as a supposed fix for this issue.
Make sure you put in a /bug report, or you can send in a help ticket if you need to know more about the situation.

I dunno. what was the response when you filed a ticket on it?
They don’t respond to tickets. It’s also pretty rare that they respond to threads in the Bug Report forum.
Other than that, sounds like a bug; they’re supposed to have proximity triggers.
Oh, customer support tickets? I thought you meant /bug tickets. My bad.
All the same, I might have to try that for the list Turret bugs.
Aww man… I really wish they fixed the engineer. Since I can’t run turrets for their excessive problems, I was really trying to do something different. Looking at our skills, I decided to try Mines. Since now I know it’s bugged, I lost hope. Even if they fix the proximity trigger, I also saw other problems with the way it was built so that it would need further tweaking to be a usable skill. Then I would have to wait for two fixes. With the speed of which they fix engineer skills, I don’t have any hope this skill will be usable until 2015.
Even with a lack of proximity-trigger, I’d say they’re one of our better skills – the field can spike fairly effectively, as well as stripping boons (unless they’ve removed that).

It does feel extremely long. That is one of the problems I noted with this skill. The other one is the cool down. It only starts after it is detonated.
