When testing this, it seems random as to whether or not the Chain Lightning will fly out to where the Elixir lands and travel parallel to the ground, or whether it goes the direction your camera is facing and essentially into the ground.

When testing this I can’t figure out which variable is changing that decides how this is determined. I’ve tested out of combat enemy targeted, out of combat no enemy targeted, in-combat enemy targeted, in-combat no enemy targeted, testing during/not-during auto attacks, during/not-during other abilities. with the camera facing/not-facing the throw, etc.

If anyone knows what actually determines how Chain Lightning will function with thrown Elixirs, please let me know.

EDIT: I figured it out.

It all depends on whether or not the game gives you a skill target.

[two paragraphs explaining the above]

EDIT2: Nope, entirely random. I thought the above was correct until further testing proved that even then, there’s a chance it will simply not work. However, I do think having a skill target does affect how Chain Lightning will work, but it’s not the only variable. No matter how much I test it there is no 100% consistency.

Even the bugs are RNG.

Yes any skill that targets an enemy, like Rocket Kit or Ram Head, and the SD lock on to that target and it will even follow them if they strafe.

IF you do not have an enemy targeted and use those types of skills then if will fly in the direction you camera is facing.

Any other TB skill like Thrown Elixirs, or even Med kit TB will just shoot it out randomly and it will most likely just go into the ground.

It basically makes it so a hybrid Elixir/SD build will not work, which really sucks.
But Static Discharge is probally the one thing that really makes gadgets worth playing with.

From my testing, thrown elixirs will more often than not work perfectly fine if you have an enemy targeted, and just randomly work incorrectly. I think a SD/Elixir build can still work, just a bit risky.

I reported this in the engi bug thingy and the bugs forum too.

Laughed so hard at the RNG thing. xD

SD should target your target, and jump from there… always.
And if no target: pick nearest enemy and jump from that one instead.

I really can not understand the reasoning behind letting the lightning ‘act’ like the spell that procs it.
Totally uncalled for.

My guess would be they didn’t intend for it to be that way but its more a consequence of lazy implementation. Like instead of adding a separate Lightning atk they just tacked on an extra effect to skills.
