Q:
Tips for a new Engineer
A:
After running with an engineer for over a year now i can tell you the engineer is the most balanced class in the game. I am using celestial gear at the moment and although its not max damage it provides a nice balance between damage and survival.
I would suggest you master the engineer kits as soon as possible, not only can you freely switch between your kits, it has only 1 sec cd, and you’l have access to a huge amount of skills. I run around in pve with a grandekit, toolkit, and elixergun. Grenade kit can have a range of 1500 + aoe blast from the grenades to a maximum of 1740 range and the damage is also good ( but it takes practise to land all you grenades on your target), toolkit is a nice utilaty kit and the same goes for the elixergun. having the traits that provide me with permanant swiftness and vigor throug kit swapping ads to your survivabilaty. dont forget sigils and runes work on your kits.
As main waepon i use dual pistols, nice conditions, decent impact damage, especialy static shot makes the pistols a good choise (multi hit blind confusion attack)
but in the end youl have to experiment to find the skills and build you really like. Ignore people when they start talking about how bad some classes are, most off them just dont know how to play the class.
As for the engineer, you need to master the class, and once you do, youl never want to play with anything else
Regarding Rangers being bad, read this: (The second and third post)

In the next patch Turrets will be made a bit better by attacking the target you attacked last but properly they will still be subpar.
Before you spend to much time in your Engineer go into the mists (PvP, you’ll be upleveled to 80 there) and test the Grenade Kit:

If you care about efficiency you’ll almost always have the Grenade Kit on your skill bar so make sure it’s fun for you to play.
Properly the only you won’t be using the Grenade Kit is when you’re using a build that is tailored around the Bomb Kit:

If you play Ele you’ll properly end up either swinging Lighting Hammer and Fiery Greatsword, spamming Staff fire AoEs or using Fresh Air (Air attunement recharges instantly) to spam Lighting Whip.

Eles arent in a great spot right now. Nerf after nerf has brought them down. When leveling an Engi, do exactly as rose said. Buy a minor sigil of bloodlust for your rifle (only 55c) and watch bombs melt HUGE groups of mobs.
Regarding having to use grenade kit to be effective: no. Its hard to land hits, and hard to move around while attacking, which in this game is key. I dont know a lot about turrets, never used em, but i know they are filled with lots if little bugs that just makes using them annoying. Someone else can probably tell you more about that.
Regarding rangers, everyone says rangers suck. I cannot understand why everyone thinks this way. The good rangers no nothing is wrong with the class, except the pet can be unresponsive and die in large Zerg events/dungeons. Take anything anyone says otherwise with a grain of salt.
Ranger, engineer,, and guard are my absolute favorite classes to play for pve and pvp. I run burst builds and super regen Healy builds on all 3, they are super fun.
